I would be interested to see if there is any micro-cracking in 5160 blades quenched in water. Not saying there will be, I've never thought of using water with 5160 before.

Which 5160 formulation are you guys using? All CRA? Is anyone who is successfully water quenching it using 5160 R?

Don't bring up the dead ,we don't need more zombies ! You quench with something that will get you full hardness without risk of quench cracks [micro or major] .

CRA and HRA are not formulations...they are annealing and processing methods. The steel type is the same. For 5160 it is .60% carbon, 1.00% chromium, about 1.00% miscellaneous alloying (Mn, P, S, Si,) and the 97.4% bulk being iron.
