I am in the market for a Sodbuster Jr. in Carbon steel. I like the simple design and have never owned one.

I have heard that the carbon steel blades take a very nice edge. I love my Alox farmer and figured it should be around the same size for EDC.

Could you please recommend a specific company that uses carbon steel and that you have experience with the model you are recommending.

Pictures never hurt for comparison.

Thanks

Paul

Boker makes a pretty good one but you will probably have to re-profile the edge. But then you will probably have to on just about any of them. My Boker keeps a good edge and a very strong back spring which you want in a folder with no lock. Watch them fingers when closing though!--KV

For guys who don't mind the staining issues of a carbon steel, I can't speak highly enough about Case's CV blades. I have a yellow Case sodbuster junior and a yellow trapper with CV blades ....... both are great working knives that take - and hold - a killer edge. Here's mine:

Thanks for the input so far.

It looks like I can get the Boker for about $19.00 in carbon steel. I think I will have to order a couple with my next order for me and my 11 year old son.

Keep the insight coming gentlemen.

I have a 2 blade case trapper that my grandfather gave me years ago. I don't polish the blade. It has spots and character and is easy to sharpen. Cleaned more squirrels and rabbits and fish and cored more apples than any other knife I have.

CASE is very reliable and they come in large&small models, yellow or black.

Queen Cutlery do a Soddie in D2 but it's a bit more expensive (usually non e too sharp out of the box I'm afraid)

Böker Argentina offer a workmanlike sodbuster with no frills in a decent enough carbon. Bit of a more 'rustic' finish than the CASE but in no way a poor knife, rugged.

Another vote for Case. They make great Sod Busters, and make them right here in the USA. Mine is one of the sharpest knives I own.

German Eye brand makes one hell of a great soddie with hammer forged carbon steel blades. Far better thasn the bokers.

I've been looking for a Carbon steel Trapper or Stockman and this thread pointed me in the correct direction. Thanks! :)
