Hi there,

I recently received (or I am about to for Christmas) a large Micarta Insingo and I am wondering if any of you do anything special for maintenance of the Micarta. I have other Micarta knives and I know that applying mineral oil to Micarta helps to maintain it but my other knives have the scales screwed on. I am wondering if mineral oil would effect the adhesive that CRK uses to attach the scales. Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

I've been carrying a large 21 Micarta and using it almost daily for almost two years. The inlays show no signs of wear. They have darkened to almost black, which can be reversed if you scrub them with handsoap. I would say they are nearly indestructable and require no maintenance. If one ever fell out, I am sure CRK would re-attach it for you, but I've never heard of that happening. I'd say do nothing, unless you want the grey to come back by washing the inlays.

Micarta doesn't really need any maintenance.

If you wish to clean them, some dish soap and a light brushing will wash off the oils from your hands. A little mineral oil (or just using it) will darken the micarta a bit, but you can always clean them if you wish.

I never had problems with my Large Micarta Sebenza 21 (as seen in my avatar) when I owned it. I liked how the scales almost look off green in the light but become jet black when they're wet. IMO no maintenance necessary unless you want to get a tooth brush and do a few passes over the scales. Also I've never heard of the handle scales falling off so you should be good to go there

Almost no maintenance. Neutral hand soap help me to get back to original color

If your Canvas Micarta handles ever get dark from normal use, oil from hands etc- try spraying the handle with Windex and just let it sit and dry- no rubbing.
The Windex will dry the oil out and your handle should be close to what it was when new.
