Hello, I am new to this forum so excuse me if im posting out of context.
I have recently recived my first ever Carhartt jacket, it is navy blue and fire retardant. I am an oiler on an offshore oil rig, the company i work for provided me with this jacket. i was anxious to wear this jacket so i put it in the wash like the instructions said (prewash in warm water and tumble dry low). here is my issue when i took it out of the dryer the jacket appeared to have white streaks, almost like soap stains everywhere.

has this happened to anyone else?
is their a fix?
is the jacket defective?
is the fire retardant material still good?

thank you all.

Might be soap, depending on how hard your water is. does wiping it with water do anything? As to the FR, is it a treated canvas shell, or nomex?

thanks for the reply. When i wipe it with water it goes away but comes back as soon as it drys, it is 100% cotton duck and it is Nomex . i put it back in the washer this time using no detergent and 1/8 of a cup of vinigar then tumble dryed it low, this didint seem to help much. the jacket now looks weathered and still has those streaks or stains, idk.

Honestly, unless your an exec or a medic that jacket is going to look really rough after your first half shift. I wouldn't worry too much. My nomex looks brand new, but my line of work had more a risk of wearing out the seat before anything else. Most of the crews I worked with got new gear every couple seasons, and it all looked ancient.

you are right, thanks for your input. i guess i was more or less hoping for a simple solution.

Could be 1) hard water/calcium/mineral stains, in which case throw a cup of vinegar in the wash.

Link.

Or better yet, just call Carhartt. I bet they have answered this question 9000x times. But try the vinegar. Being very slightly acidic, its awesome for cleaning just about anything from sinks to floors to clothes. I pour a cup of it in the dishwasher from time to time, and it gets rid of all of that white scaly stuff. Its especially good at removing mineral stains and buildup.

One thing to note is that most FR, unless otherwise noted or made from nomex, has a chemical treatment applied to it to give it such properties. Most give specific instructions on laundering and one of the most frequently seen is not to use fabric softener, though I doubt yours has been compromised after one wash no matter the situation. Most of my FR is Tyndale brand, but I also have some dragon fur, dri-fire, and carhartt. Without a pic, I can't be sure, but I have had a pair of carhartt duck pants that got the white lines in places. That, I believe was just some loss of dye where the heavy canvas creased when drying.

Working on an oil rig? Don't worry about it. White marks will be the least of your worries :) Seriously, carhartt makes some really good work clothing. Very durable and perfect for that type of work.

Well guys I’m happy to inform you all that I fixed this issue, turns out it was just the dye bleed. So I went to Wal-Mart, got some Rid Dye and walah. I mixed ½ cup of hot hot water and 2 tablespoons of dye. I spot treated the affected areas and steam ironed to set the dye. Good as new! Now, I know the white marks are going to be incomparable to what this jacket will go through, however that’s just it, I’m going to be the one to put the jacket through that and to weather the jacket and give it those markings and scars. That actually means something to me. Plus I’ve been on my off days and will be for the next 4 more days, to be honest; I kind of wanted to sport a NEW Carhartt. Thanks for all the input.
