Carothers and Guns

I always look forward to following your journey Matt.
BTW Ed Brown makes some really nice 1911's if you haven't found them yet.

That sweet sweet DW 1911 is my lustful mission. I have found one already but that price tag plus tax and DROS, then ammo and a couple of holsters always brings me back down to reality rather quickly ;)

The good news is that I have found the M1A scout which is currently on sale at one of the local stores here. I'll go this week to start the paperwork :)

Finally dropped some $ on this one and started the paperwork / DROS. Our wonderful CA-DOJ is so far behind with BGCs these days that the salesperson told me just under 3 weeks, instead of the usual 10 days waiting period during normal times. Sadly, no deals running on my preferred walnut stock but I am still very happy :) :

$400 off the listed price which was 2 bill$ less than the MSRP, plus the Springfield Armory's GearUp promo (front scope mount + 2 additional mags)

BTW while there at Discount Gun mart, I handled a couple of Dan Wesson 1911s (both the PM and the Bobtail) plus a Springfield Armory 1911-A PTR. TBH, I liked the parkerized TRP better  Is it sacrilegious for me with you the 1911 aficionados to say that? In any case, I am not pulling the trigger on any 1911 any time soon, because I want to keep some more play fund$ on the side for Momma Jo and Papi Nathan ;)

Nice grab!! That's a beautiful gun, I was looking at the SCout or CGB for a while... never pulled the trigger. DGM is a good solid LGS, I like the backroom with all the fancy shotguns and oldschool rifles.

Thanks my CPK-Bro :)

I did notice the backroom where they keep all the antique looking rifles and shottys but they had salespeople serving customers in there too and filling out paperwork, so I didn't want to start trotting in there. Glad that I went there after looking at their online fliers because the same gun would've cost me $500+ more at my local North County watering holes! I also made sure that the gun which I was buying was a minty fresh one out of a box and not a display model

A number of years ago I walked into an out of state gun store and was smitten with the beauty of the M1A. Unfortunately I live in a restricted state and have been unable to purchase one. I will have to live vicariously through you on this one.

Congrats on your purchase of another great gun. I’ve enjoyed shooting the M1A for around 15 years now, excellent rifles.
I know how you like to improve and modify your guns so I’ll suggest that you head over to Sadlak’s online store and start perusing :)

I’ve been interested in picking up the spring guide for a while but I haven't added anything to my Socom other than a Suppressor Mount and it shoots just fine for me. It did spend several years in a TROY Modular Chassis System which shrank its groups to bolt gun sizes. I ended up taking it off the rifle due to the weight of the system and a bum arm. The TROY MCS is a superb set up. It puts the barrel inline with the stock making for a much nicer recoil impulse and leads to faster follow up shots, I could dump 20 rounds without visible muzzle rise. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it is interesting and M1A related so I thought I’d mention it.
At this stage in the game I’ll be putting it into a tanker stock when I find a decent one. I saw pics of the tanker version on the M1A forums many years ago And have been wanting to do something similar since. With the release of Springfields version I won’t have to have the M14 selector switch cut out ruining the lines of my rifle:)

Thank you to you both 1AA1 and Swarthy :) Yes, I am pretty stoked about waiting it out till this deal fell into my lap specially after Bass Pro Shops crapped on my last online order of the the Ruger Scout but everything worked out to my favor. The M1A is a much much better gun IMO with its legendary reputation for performance / reliability.

TBT, I am always very pro tradition (hence why I immediately took to CPK instead after sampling and comparing some of this other D3V producer, ended up in love with CPK and Nathan's interpretation of American designed pedigree and then never looked back). I always wanted an AR10 (actually A2) but this upper and lower stuff is too complex for my simple mind who has no familiarities with such builds. I reckon that one day / some day, I will also get into those but I will leave getting into AR15s if & when I leave Cali. For now, the M1A Scout is my Cali "AR10" ;)

Sawrthy, I am surprised to hear that there are even more gun restrictive states than CA! Where do you hail from if you don't mind me asking?

1AA1, thank you for your suggestions regarding Browsing Sadlak. I had actually come across used M1As on sites such as CalGuns where there is an exchange for all sort of guns and had seen some sellers mentioning Sadlak mods to theirs. Alas a suppressor set up is illegal here in CA so I will just have to be happy that the factory set up already comes with a CA legal muzzle break.

I'm now sooo stoked that these two CZs got ready to be picked up today just after like 2 weeks instead of the 4-6 weeks time which I was quoted when I dropped them off. Now both the P0-1 and the RAMI are Cajunized with the pro kit, CGW forged hammers and triggers. The RAMI also had tritium nightsights installed just like the P-01 had that TruDot set installed before.

I can tell you that all the grittiness and the trigger slop have now gone after also polishing the internals in addition to installing those CGW parts. These CZs now feel absolutely perfect to me and I can't wait to shoot them :)

What a beauty!

Thank you my friend, I appreciate your taste :)

I'm a friggin child though as in my child-like disposition! I went to pick up my M1A and once done making my wallet lighter, I then fell in lust with a LWRC M61C. Now seriously thinking about that AR15 too, bah humbug! We don't get those too often here in Cali so I'm gonna be agonizing a bit this eve to see how I can justify that expenditure
