I really like my winkler knife and would love to carry it, I cannot figure out how to unless I am always wearing a suit jacket or cool weather arrives soon.

Its not like I need to split wood or anything hardcore just your normal EDC tasks.

As a daily I generally carry either a skyline or cryo but I greatly prefer my fixed blades -Izula, winkler neck knife. those are the smaller fixed I own.

I just like the size of the larger winkler its not to big nor too small unlike some of the Busse I own, anyway, opinions and suggestions are appreciated

Bill, I do have kydex and it could be worn IWB but then there would be the problem of the handle sticking up against any tucked in shirt. I should say I tend to dress smart casual so untucked dress shirts or tees are not much of an option.

I will go have a look at the merc gear. thanks.

I am just throwing this out there see if there is anything I am overlooking. if its not possible then thats just the way it is.

I guess anything is "possible" What are the dimensions of your knife?

Im sure some of the IWB options have a tuckable feature to them. I don't know specifically which ones because i wear t shirts a lot and don't have to go iwb for my knives. My gun on the other hip, is IWB and tuckable so i can conceal it wherever legal to do so.

I open carry one of my Personal EDC's every day whenever I leave the house. It is just over 8" OAL with just under a 4" blade. I have never had anyone ask about it. However, when I open carried my neck knife I had someone regularly ask about it.

Chris, I forgot to add I live in china where knives are not illegal but strongly frowned upon as when a wacko wants to hurt someone they generally walk into schools and slice up kids. ( take that anti gun freaks ). If stateside I wouldnt even ask about it. I without looking at the spec I think the knife in question is about the same. 8in oal 4 inch Blade. so as you see not so large.

I'd look into the Bark River: Little Creek, Northstar EDC, and Northstar Companion. All three are great city knives when paired with a pocket sheath.

My city FB is a Strider SA-GG. Before I had the GG model I carried a regular SA cord wrap all the time when I lived in Austin & I worked in offices there for five years. I had more people tell me that they were glad that I always had a knife than people that gave me strange glances. I recently re-discovered Fiddleback Forge (Andy has a forum here) and they get the highest marks in all aspects. It's good and bad that they don't come with a sheath. Bad because you can't carry it right away but good because you can get EXACTLY what you want! Mine is with Rick Lowe right now and he built me a sheath to my specs through emails and phone conversations and it looks very functional and beautiful!

When wearing a tucked in shirt in a warm area, I've found pocket carry to be the best option for knives and guns (which is why I love J frame centennials).

I regularly EDC fixed blades, but they tend to be smaller than the one you mentioned. Fallknifen WM-1, AG Russell Woodswalker, Bark River Mini Canadian, and a few customs. The largest ones are about the size of an ESEE-3. With a well designed pocket sheath, they are very comfortable and low key.

Honestly, I just carry my Winkler II Belt Knife at about 4 o' clock outside the waist-band with my shirt over it, and it's never been mentioned or noticed. I'm a pretty small guy as well (5'5") so it's not as if my size dwarfs it. ;) If you just carry it on the belt with a shirt over it, with the way it's designed it should sit pretty high and unnoticed, and with the curve of the handle it can still be easily reached when needed.

Also, I live in Florida, so I can attest to it carrying well even in shorts and t-shirt weather.

Fixed blades with smart casual dress doesn't work IMHO. Even if you could manage a system for carrying it concealed there is the whole "what would you use it for" thing to get past. You will probably be looked at like a psycho if you pull out a kabar or any FB for that matter to open your mail at your office desk. For office tasks anything larger than a swiss army knife is pushing it.

I do not see the point of a small fixed blade over a medium sized folder. Where is the utility?

You could carry inside a deep pocket or inside the waistband. Mercharness is also a possibility.

This is what happens to me whenever I decide to carry a fixed blade. I only wear my shirts tucked in, cannot stand the sloppy dressed untucked look. But to each his/her own. Still, the comments I usually get are typically "who are you planning on stabbing today with that knife?" Even though the folders I carry have prominent clips, no one ever says a word about them. Go Figure!

Personally I feel the fail rate is potentially higher with folders. I would rather carry a smaller fixed blade than a medium sized folder. The little creek I EDC on work days may not win many knife fights...but nobody gives me any grief about it at work and it is build like a small tank. However this is all personal preference.

I have noticed the same regarding large folders in public. I have a cold steel rajah ii (a pocket sword) and nobody ever says a peep unless I pull it out for whatever reason...then their eyes get real big and the comments start rolling in (even at big biker events where just about everyone else, but me is packing a pistol)

I carry my Bark River Little Carver with me every day in the sharpshooter sheath it came with. It easily fits in my chinos or slacks front pocket, depending on where I'm working. Nobody bats an eyelid if I pull it out to sharpen a pencil or open a letter.

I only carry a fixed blade on the weekends when I have my shirt untucked. Its legal to carry a machete open or concealed with a ccw permit here in florida....not that ya could conceal a machete or want to......but if I go into the big city or heavy suburbs I stick to folders. Cause you get strange looks from folks like you are mass murderer. So looks like the entire planet suffers from the same fear and bias.

best suggestion I got for the op is a custom made tuckable kydex sheath. If I can carry a cz85 combat iwb with shirt tucked in...a knife should be no problem to conceal even with more fitting shirts tucked in. Good luck on the hunt...

You could get a kydex sheath made for it with a hole at the bottom below the tip, run a length of paracord or leather thong through it, and hang it around your neck under your shirt. Neck knives are usually smaller/flatter, but depending on your physique, how loose you wear your shirts, if you wear a tie, etc., it could work. Try different lengths, depending on your height and physique it may be less noticeable lower down near you stomach.

Most cities in which fixed blades are legal dictate that they must be worn openly, if you care about legality that is.

Personally I think that the deterrent factor alone from open carrying a fixed blade should never be underestimated. It can make going into banks pretty awkward, but if you carry yourself like a civilized human being you should be fine. Obviously courthouses and state admin buildings are going to tell you to go away.
