carrying at Knotts Berry Farm

Hi,

I was planning on heading down to Knotts Berry Farm in Anaheim, CA in a few weeks. I thoroughly understand California law and the local ordinances in that area and understand that I am legally allowed to carry into the park. Also, I understand that if they have a policy against carry and if they ask me to either leave my knife outside or leave the park then I am legally obligated to comply. My primary question is what is their security when entering the park? Do they do the full metal detector check? Thanks!

I was there recently with my family, and there was no metal detector at that time. I was carrying my ZT301, and a shirt that discretely covered my pocket, but they only seemed to be doing package and backpack checks. As a side note, until they hit 15 years old, Knotts was my kids favorite park to go to. Enjoy.

I'm just curious. Let's say they do a full metal detector check. How does that affect your visit?

Will you not go? Or just leave your knife in the car?

Thanks for the replies guys. The reason I want to know if I can carry is so I won't be hassled at the entrance to the park. Park security often think that they have powers that they don't have such as confiscation and arrest. So therefore I prefer to not make a scene if possible.

Also, Knotts is in Anaheim, CA which is in Orange County. CA state law and Orange County ordinances do not prohibit any length of folder or fixed blade. The 3" rule that one of the above posters mentioned refers to LA county ordinances which prohibit any fixed blade over 3" from being carried.

Keep the knife entirely in your pocket and you won't have any problems at all.
Did you know the Boysenberry was "invented" at KBF.

Its the same as with Disneyworld. They do a cursory bag check, which is just to give the appearance of security, but they don't check pockets. These parks have to strike a balance between giving the perception of security (thus the cursory bag check, just for show) vs. not being so overbearing as to keep people from coming to the park.

If they see a folder sticking out of your pocket, they will ask you to lose it - which they have every right to do. But they can't force you to hand it over. What they can do, however, is ask you to leave, and you are committing the crime of trespass if you refuse.

As a side note, one must be aware that sometimes "security" at public events may be comprised of off-duty law enforcement without the uniform. So while a regular security guy has no more authority than a check-out girl at the grocery, an off-duty police officer (who you think is just a regular security guy) can still arrest you.

Bottom line is that one must be intimately familiar with the law, and comply with it in all respects. The flip side is that you can also tell someone to kiss your grits if you know they are sandbagging you.

Thanks for the info guys. I will be re-clipping my folder after the entrance. Just didn't want to cause problems and make a scene.

I am also aware that if for some reason they do make an issue out of the folder I will not hesitate to return to the car and drop it off so I won't be kicked out and given a trespass warning. However, I probably will resist if they try to do anything they legally are not allowed to do such as confiscation or detainment over a legal pocket knife.

when ever i go there for knotts scary farm, they always have metal detectors. It's never stopped me though.

I have been to Knotts Scary Farm but I hear that security is especially beefed up during that period and that security returns to normal after Knotts Scary Farm closes. Just curious, how do you continue to carry even when there are metal detectors, wand, bag, and pat down checks?

I've been to both KBF & Disneyland and carried both places. I never clip the knife to the pocket so I don't have any issues. Disneyland has a lot of undercover folks inside the park too so I just leave it in the pocket and have never had an issue.

The time I went they asked us to empty out our pockets, and they have the metal detecting wand. You're better off just not carrying a knife that day, plus it might fall out of your pocket on the rides.

dang well I will have to ditch the Milli and use a money clip blade. And was this during Knotts Scary Farm by the way?

Knott's Berry Farm is in Buena Park, not Anaheim. I don't think it makes a difference knife law wise.:)

There is a certain irony that 20-some years ago Knotts Berry Farm had a really good knife store in the park...

KNOTTS BERRY FARM IS ACTUALLY LOCATED IN BUENA PARK CALIFORNIA. Which is apart of LOS ANGELES COUNTY.
