I have a few Stockman knives that I tend to use when hunting/hiking. I have always had a desire for "medium" Case with rounded bolsters, a tall clip blade, and a traditional spey/sheepsfoot layout. This would seem to be the perfect outdoor pocket knife. The 6347 is the exact pattern I keep coming back to but it seems to mostly be made in Stainless. I have searched on many occasions for a 6347CV in one of the red bone options but I don't even know if they were ever made.

If you have one of these, I'd love to see a picture and what year it was made in. Of course, any Stockman pictures or recommendations are more than welcome.

There was a run of yeller delrin 3347 a few years ago for a large dealer. I don't know about red bone. There are definitely vintage 47 pattern stock knives with red bone covers.

Those are the only ones I've seen in CV.

If you can't get the red you are looking for get the amber bone and dye it using RIT cherry red liquid dye.

Different knife being the Large stockman but was amber bone -I did this very recently and I think it was a success.:)
I believe these come in CV. Mine is.
Heres a link to the thread How I did it. It's really easy.

I have the stag CV which I'm crazy about. A red bone or chestnut bone in CV would be very sweet!

The 3347 Yellow Delrin in CV (and SS) is still available as an exclusive from one Case dealer. I am not aware of any recently produced 6347 bone handle CV versions. It was available at one time in CV in their stag Rancher series (5347 CV). Those can still be found with some diligent searching.

Yeah, that RIT Dye job looks amazing. It's definitely on the options list...

The Case 6347 was such a popular pattern that finding an original Red Bone from the 1960's or early 1970's shouldn't be much trouble and should only cost you about what a GEC costs now. Most of them were CV steel (unless they are marked Stainless). I have one of the 63047 variations (Turkish Clip main vs. the standard 6347 with the Clip main) from 1978 - had real deep red bone to dark brown bone then - the brighter Red Bone is from the earlier 1970's runs. A large mail order knife seller (can't find its name listed so won't mention it) sent me a Christmas catalog with a whole page of Case CV knives in red and chestnut bone. Included is a stockman with round bolsters, 3 3/8" closed. Dunno if that is the one you are looking for.

Oh boy! That's the one!
Many of the "FOR FLESH ONLY" blades I've seen are stainless (even it the other blades are carbon). Is this always the case?

You have to do a little looking/hunting but these knives are still available.

Ah Ha! As soon as I started searching for a Case pattern with "6347 HP" instead of "6347 CV" a world of great older knives opened up. Does anyone know what "HP" stands for? It appears to mean the knife is carbon steel (Or "Special Cutlery Steel"), but I don't see any Case knives listed as having "CV steel" until the 90's...

Anyway, I found a very nice Case 6347HP made 30 years ago on the year I was born! I'm pretty excited for this one!

Nice knife! HP means the knife is equipped with Sheepfoot and Pen secondary blades. There are many Case letter designations (many of which seem to defy logic as to their meaning!) In previous times most Case knives were made with carbon steel - it was standard issue on their knives and thus not marked - Stainless Steel was special back then and those knives were thus marked. Nowadays CV is the smaller percentage of what Case offers. OH

Thanks OH, your reply makes a lot of sense.

I believe the knife I purchased is carbon steel if it does not say SS on any of the tangs, correct?

I'm not so sure that the HP suffix stands for Sheepfoot and Pen. In the early days, Case used various suffixes for different blades. Two of the suffixes were SH for Sheepfoot and SP for Spay. In later years, Case dropped the first letter of the suffixes and SHSP simply became HP meaning Sheepfoot and Spay blade.

The picture posted just above by Macchina would verify that as the knife pictured has a Sheepfoot and Spay blade.

On many of their knives Case used Pen in their pattern suffix. So a 6347 with a pen blade and a sheepfoot blade would be 6347 SHPen or HPen.

I have a couple examples but don't have them handy for photos.

Edited to add: The knife I pictured in post #14 above is a 6347HP. I just went out and checked it.

As stated by Trout Hound, Case is advertising a 6347CV in Dark Red Bone on their website. Don't see it on the major retailers yet though.
