Howdy folks. Long story short, the wife and I are getting geared up for a summer of paddling and fishing and was wondering about the performance of Case fishing knives. We are heading out to East Texas this weekend for some fishing and an overnight at a local state park. Along the way we plan on stopping at this hardware store that is known to have a massive selection of Case knives (Im a bit of a junkie now, thanks for contributing guys) and Im sure I will walk out the door with something. Does this knife really perform well for fishing tasks, or should I just forget it and look for something else on my list?
Thanks Yall,
Rob
BTW I really am enjoying the traditional forums, what a great place!

I used them for years on small Trout and Walleye. They worked good as long as I kept it sharp, like any other knife. Once I found out I could use them for a couple years then sell it on ebay I liked them more.

If you are going to catch sunfish and crappie it will work great for cleaning and scaling them. If you want to filet bass or deal with big catfish, a rapala or similar or buck 110 or fixed blade may be more the ticket.

Thank you sir, I currently have all of the above mentioned. For some reason I sometimes prefer a smaller scalpel sharp type blade for cutting tasks especially when it comes to cleaning game. I guess I feel much more in control.

I have not used the case version, but my dad used a similar one for as long as I can remember. My sister uses it today. We fish for fun and food and I've never needed more knife...but most of my catch is less than 16". I use a case or S&M toothpick today, since I do not scale fish, but skin em now.

They work well enough. The blade does not flex, though. I cleaned and filleted a dozen or so crappie with mine recently when I couldn't find my filet knife. It worked, but not well. I think it would be great for trout and bluegill.

It'll probably work fileting bass alright too, but butchering catfish I think needs a pretty stout knife typically.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think Im still on the fence about it. I have never handled one of these and for some reason figured it would have at least a bit of flex to it. When Im on the river I usually carry my Mora 510 and it ends up getting used for everything including cleaning fish if I dont have a proper fillet knife handy. Hmm decisions.........
