Here's a question for all you knowledgeable Case guys...
Which model of Case Medium Stockman knives have the broadest (widest) clip point main blade?

Technically the '47 is just a "Stockman" - neither small, medium, or large.

There are some '18s that have the regular clip blade like you find on the '032s, and some that have the slim California clip.

For example - the Pocket Worn Harvest Orange 6318 has the slim California clip, while the exact same knife in Pocket Worn Old Red bone has the regular clip.

I did some comparison photos a while back, that may help:

Top to bottom: 6375 Large Stockman, 6347 Stockman, 6318 Medium Stockman, 63032 Medium Stockman.

Great comparison photo. Thank you!:thumbsup:
The #47 looks perfect, now off to go hunting.

For the '47 pattern, that blade angle in my above post is normal for the pattern, as you can see in this comparison of several variants:

There are a couple more patterns in the "Medium Stockman" category. The smallest is the '44. Then you have the '3087 which is basically the pen knife with the addition of a short spey, and the '090 which is the equal-end cigar shape.

I have a few comparison photos showing some of them:

This is the 63032 (top) vs the 6344 (bottom). In this pic they look almost the same, but that is due to camera angle. The '44 is smaller and slimmer:

This is the 63087 compared to a 6318 and a Peanut:

I don't really have any comparison pics of the 63090 equal-end, which is discontinued anyway, but this thread was a nice writeup of the pattern:

They look like they have the same main blade.
That's the one and only nit-pick about my 32, the main blade seems very small for the knife.

I looked it up. Seems the #47 pattern is just what I'm looking for. Thanks for the quick and accurate answer, Mike.:thumbsup:
John, I think the 47 stockman is an excellent 3 7/8" knife, but one thing that surprised me is that it has 3 springs instead of the 2 I've come to expect from a stockman. I don't think the 3 springs make the knife any thicker, and with 3 springs no blades need to be krinked. But it is an unusual feature.

I picked one up off the Exchange. I'm anxious to try it out. :)

They call it "medium" because... Have you seen the 6375 Large stockman?? Huge difference.

It's still incorrect to call the 47 medium. Stockmans in the range of 3 3/4'' to 4'' or bigger are all considered large stockmans. Sometimes the ones bigger than 4'' are called a jumbo.

Again - the '347 pattern is just "Stockman" in Case's official name of the pattern. No size modifier attached.

The ones slightly smaller are "Medium," and this comprises a number of distinct patterns. '344, '3087, '3090, '3032, '318 of recent production.

The one current larger one is the Large Stockman, the '375 pattern. The ones below 3" in closed length ('333, '327) are called Small Stockman.

I know that some Case dealers lump the '47 in with the '18s, '032s, '090s, and '44s in their groupings under "Medium Stockman", but that is not the name of the pattern.

It is, generally, probably my ideal carry for when I am not concerned about size, or do not have very specific work in mind that needs the bigger (and squarer) Large Stockman.

For some reason known only to them, Case's 4 inch, square bolstered stockman pattern, the 392, is not currently made. The 347 has round bolsters and comes in an eighth inch shorter, making it even more pocket friendly. To me, the three-spring design of the 347 is also a plus, eliminating the krinked blades which can sometimes be a little awkward on a stockman. Here is a nice one in Damascus steel with burnt cream jigged bone covers.

I wanted to update this thread...
I was able to instantly pick up a Case #47 Stockman from our Exchange.
It arrived today and it is an absolutely gorgeous knife. The fit n finish is great with one very, very slight gap. The walk n talk is fantastic too, really reminds me of the action found on a Victorinox, so smooth and snappy. With the three springs, there is zero blade rub and it really doesn't add hardly anything to the thickness of the knife. And oh boy, the jigged bone and color is just amazing, and I love the nice broad clip-point blade. Thanks everybody for introducing me to the #47 pattern, I'd never had one before and I think it's going to be amazing. Not a "Medium" but I'm very happy with it.:thumbsup:

That's a good looking knife, John. I like that shield much better than most Case shields. Good grab!

Agree with Rick. That is a good lookin' knife! Nice that it all came together quickly for you, as we were just talking about this last weekend :)
