I've searched this forum and the interwebs for people's opinions on Case hatchets. I'm not talking about the interchangeable blade/combo sets, or the early "Indestructible" Case hatchet with the built-in guard. I'm talking about the plain small Case hatchets. It looks like they made a couple of different models - some with wooden handles and some with stacked leather (??) like the Estwing.

Who here has experience with Case hatchets and what do you think of them? Steel, balance, etc.

I don't have experience with this hatchet. My thoughts based on other Case products is that the steel will be good but not great. The bigger issue is that this style hatchet is made of flat stock. That precludes have good bit geometry so it will only be good for light chopping.

Fun thing to own but you probably won't use it much.

I would be primarily be using it to do very light limbing, knot removal really, for roughing for whittling. I currently use a Marbles Small Axe MR702 forged in El Salvador to do that right now. It works very well, but it's just a bit too thick for roughing and I thought it might be cool to use a hatchet that matches my whittling knives when I'm whittling.

I hear what you're saying about the steel. I think they're using their stainless not their CV, so sharpening might be a problem, and it does look like they're using flat stock, but the pole is thicker and there is a profile distal taper toward the edge, so they worked it more than other hatchet makers that use flat stock. Odd.

I've got an old imperial from my dad, and in comparison to a traditionap hatchet i know thst no matter the make these are not real hatchets, they're hatchet shaped knives and are more like cleavers than anything else.
I've never seen any advertisements for such hatchets, but it's my firm belief that these are really ment for game processing.
When you think about the fact that they normally accompany average sized hunting blades which aren't exactly large it makes total sense as such a hatchet will be great for getting through the tough stuff.

Now since I was a kid I have used my imperial for quicker stock removal on random whittling and carving tasks, and it always works okay for this but I now prefer other things I've got.

If this is what you want it for I think it'll work just fine.
