the case I got for my bday its a few months old and the old timer is 50 to 100 years old or somewhere in between. Which one do you think is better?

I like them both but I could never afford a Case xx when I was growing up. And somehow an Old Timer always found its way into my pocket. And still does.

I always have an Old Timer in my pocket 24/7. My most used knife really. I like Case, have quite a few collectible ones but the Old Timer is what my Uncle's and Granddaddy used to carry, so a vintage NY USA 340T it is.

I would carry the Case and make some memories and hold on to the old timer just because it is a memory in and of itself.

I would choose the Shcrade 34OT middleman stockman as I have one that I carried a lot as a kid until I eventually realized that it happened to be a lemon. I really like the carbon steel that Shcrade used.
BTW Shcrade Introduced the old timer line in 1958, and the delrin on your knife looks much more modern and I'm guessing it's probably from the 80's to early 2000's.

Shcrade introduced the old timer line in 1958, so there must have been a bit of a memory slip somewhere.
I've got knives that were given to me by family members, and dates they remember are way off.
That's still a great knife that you should treasure forever, but it's just not as old as you've been told.
I may be wrong about it appearing to have a more modern delrin on it ( the caramel color's used to be a bit more orangish in color ) but I do know when the old timer line first came out.

I have a Case that was carried by both my maternal grandfather and then my dad (his son-in-law) and I'm afraid of losing it. I carry it once a year on Dad's birthday. The rest of the time I carry something I wouldn't mind losing. So in your situation I would EDC the new Case.

I'm guessing your great grandpa would want you to carry his knife and use it, like he did. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess he wasn't a "safe queen" kind of a guy....:D

Carry them both on different days. No need to stick with one knife.

When I was a kid, the main pocketknife brand I saw was Schrade. My favorite Schrade was a medium stockman with stainless blades marked "razor blade stainless". It was a very good knife.

As an adult I learned about Case. TBH, I find a good Case knife to be more comfortable in use. Just personal preference. I also like the looks of Case knives in general better. And I'm the type who prefers Case's stainless over Schrade's carbon steel. So I would carry and use the Case.
