I have never owned a Case before and wanted to get one that was representative of their tradition for making affordable knives for the working man.

Do you think this one would fit the bill?

Thanks,
Mike

That or a trapper would be about as an affordable/traditional as you could get (especially round this part of the U.S.)

Be careful though, you just might find that medium stockman one of the most versatile knives you have owned. ;)

Thanks Bastid, I don't really know why I am so fascinated by the Stockman pattern. I currently have my old Camillus made Sears Craftsman, Buck 301 and 303, Boker Tree brand in 1095, and an American made Schrade 34OT.

Just figured I need (need ... haha) a Case to carry for awhile now.

The yellow handled 3318CV is a classic.

Forced patina....who me???? I steel wooled them down to a more desirable tone....

Here's a pic of my medium yellow stockman. Didn't realize this one was CV until I started using it and seeing the old patina rainbow coming. Pleasant surprise.

I love the deep creamy yellow color of the Delrin on the older Case knives. That 1970 is in beautiful condition -- what a dream user!

Over the years I have become almost exclusively yellerhandle buyer/user. Medium stockman CV is a wonderful knife. Yellerhandle Sodbuster jr, peanut, trapper, etc.

Yellow Case medium Stockman is about as traditional as you can get. I, for one, am proud to be called "yella". :D

thx - cpr

The yellow CV stockman is definetly a nice workingman's knife. I have to admit though, to a real liking for the new Chestnut Bone CV line of knives from Case:

Can't go wrong with a yeller one, truly classic Case..

The great thing about Case is there are SOOO many options.

I'm not sure what they changed exactly, but there is a definete difference in the older and newer yellows..

Well, looks like I'm now on the hunt for a Yeller Case 3318, CV, medium stockman.

Thanks fellas, you are true enablers!

Mike

Although I very much like all the Case Stockman models scaled in yellar handles and produced with hi-carbon and/or CV steel, the one I love the most is this little fellar here, the Case model # 33044.. or perhaps better known by the older folksy type folks amongst us as the Birdseye Stockman.. :)

Case FEVER !! OH NOOOOOOoooo...

I caught it the other day. Was browsing thru the oddball knife stock of a local
B&M archery supply place (Archery!, for God's sake!).
And unfortunately picked up a Case CV Canoe:

A little research showed they're discontinued, so I HAD to snatch it up!
What Next!

I got a Case yellow handled cv in the mail today, cut up a couple of mangos for dinner, and already starting to show a little patina.
