Caswell black oxide kit?

Anybody tried Caswell black oxide kit? I've heard good results about it, said it was like a rust blue. I'm thinking of using it on the occasional gun project, gaurds for bowies, maybe on damascus and sand the high spots bright again.

What do you guys think?

This is the first time that I have seen this particular brand. I have seen this brand of cold blueing, but haven't used it.

I've used another brand on machined parts I've made. Called Tool Black. You just degrease the part (helps to warm it somewhat) and then dip it in the blackening solution. After that, there is a sealer that you dip it in.

The finish isn't that durable and it isn't a presentation finish. It will look closer to the blackened finish you see on blacksmith tongs rather than like black chrome.

I'd buy a small amount to see if you like it. Precision Brand is the one you see in the Industrial Supply Catalogs.
