CAT-Knife - My very personal "STAINLESS" prototype!

I'm a friend of traditional knives!
I'm a friend of the mighty MERCATOR or CAT-Knife, because it's so slim, that you don't notice it in your front pocket!
I love modern materials like stainless steel too, because stainless knives will never rust, during 3 weeks on the see site or a few years in the drawer, without a single drop of oil!

But, why the hell it's impossible, to buy a stainless CAT-Knife???

OK, 2 weeks ago i took a few tools, like saw, hammer, files, some sandpaper etc. ... and started my "project".
Took me only a little bit of "inspiration"... but very much "transpiration" :) That is, what i have so far:

While working on it, i thought, why shouldn't "my" CAT-Knife have a clip, to carry it, like my other "modern" knives???
And that's, what it looks like now.
But please, be gracious, i have been an "office-guy" during the last 45 years, and pinning a knife is a "hard" job, if you are a very beginner!

Please, have in mind, it's only my "first prototype", to talk about it! And now my question :

What do you think of a full stainless version of the CAT-Knife?
What your opinion of a pocket-clip?
Would you buy one? (OK, maybe you american boys should have a CV blade as an option!)

In two week i'm in Solingen again and meet Mr. Rommel, the owner of the Otter factory. I would like to give him my "experimental stainless prototype", my "wish list" ... and all your comments!

I'm shure, Otter will produce such a knife, if there is some interest of US collectors/users!

i have the carbon version and that is what is most commonly available in the u.s. but i have seen the stainless version offered for sale here. strange that it would be so hard to find in germany!

Stainless means: The complete knife, not only the blade!

ahhhh, i see. i think what you are talking about is different then. interesting.
i live in a very humid climate and often have to switch to stainless knives during the summer. carbon knives will rust in my pocket on a hot day.

Neat project! While many folks here aren't very interested in pocket clips, some of us enjoy knives of that "type" as well.
I like it.
What materials did you start with? A few different "Kat" knives that allowed you to mix & match?

Nice job on that! We don't consider a knife with a pocket clip traditional so I'm going to move this to the General Discussion forum.

If you want something impervious to the elements, you need to go with for example titanium.[/QUOTE]

A titanium Cat knife, would be awesome!

Where did you get that clip? Did you buy it separately from the mercator? I have one and would love to install a clip, I find myself not carrying it becasue of the absence of the clip.

I'm confused, Old Boy. Did you make a Mercator frame from scratch, bending and grinding a chunk of stainless steel, then engraved it "Mercator Germany"?

I'm also confused. Looking at the specs of the Mercator on a sales website not a sponsor of this forum, the knife is listed as a black painted stainless steel handle.

I recently bought the brass-handled model. Otter on the handle, no cat. Because it's brass, it won't rust. Since the manufacturer has already embraced different materials, I'd guess he has at least considered stainless.

BTW, the brass one is nice. I see no need for a clip.

I like your thinking.
A Titanium handle would be the apex. But, a milled G10 handle would also be cool.

I took it from a cheap chinese folder, only to see, how i would like it ;)

You are right... that's the way, to make a (my) "prototype" ... no grinder, no machine, nearly all "by hand" on my old workbench :)

OK, for the "logo" i used my PROXON in a veeery careful way ;)

What you have seen is the elder model ... and you can choose between stainless or carbon blade only.
The handel is not out of stainless steel!
