I,m just using that heading as supposedly it can have effects which are not for some people . I have read it eases labour and so caution may be needed by pregnant women . I have also read it is high in vitaimin C . Has anyone used this ? Are some cedars better than others ? How do you prepare it ? I have sun dried cedar I use as incense . Can I use that ? Has it lost most of its Vitamin C ?

Kevin, from what I've read they use the berries of the white cedar tree, which are like tiny cones. Yes, it's supposed to be high in vitamin C. No, I've never used it.

Also, from what I've read, French Canadians, back in the real old days, used to ferment it into a light beer.

By the way, do you know who the father is? ;)

Careful with cedars. Some species of the juniperus family are very toxic. Some others are perfectly edible. In doubt, and if you're looking for vitamin C, better grab some pine needles, or fir (NOT yew) needles, or spruce needles... Other good sources are wild roses fruits (probably the best source in the woods), wild strawberry leaves, blackberry leaves...

Plants are powerful stuff. They can heal and they can hurt. Respect them first, then learn carefully.

Cheers,

David

David I see we are in agreement as to knowledge being the best medecine . I try to learn from as many sources as I can . I try to not be so much cautious as explanatory .

There are rosehips just down the laneway from me . While I barely know more about them than cedar tea I will be looking into them as well .

One rose hip has as much vit C as three oranges, ate some just this weekend.
Spit out the seeds.
As for cedar tea, I do use it for the white cedar. I boil the "leaves" to make a light very good tea. There are warnings for this but the Shinabs have used it for centuries, but not for vit C;)

i just drink pine needle tea when im in the woods. i've done it for years. just boil up some water. chop up some pine needles. pour the water in and let it sit a few minutes. best to put some kinda lid on it. i like taking a portable plastic mug for this purpose because it allows the tea to steep somewhat.

also a little spoonful of brown sugar never hurt anyone :D

cheers
