Chaco Sandals, worth the money?

I've always just worn cheap flip flops in the summer months but if I'm going to do anything more than hang around the house I find I need shoes or clogs and socks because of the flip flops having little cushioning and zero support. I typically wear clogs with socks in the winter, and when the walking distance or weather require it I'll wear hiking boots or running shoes. I've been thinking about finally getting a good pair of sandals that can actually be worn to walk/stand long distances ing and I like the looks of Chaco designs, I've looked at the Z1, Z2 and am especially interested in the Zong model (since I prefer slip-ons) I'm not especially interested in the flip model (unless someone can convince me otherwise). Anyway I'd really like some input on those Chaco models from anyone that's had them and like to know if they are worth the money? Also is the Zong model good for walking or is it essentially an expesive flip-flop?

My wife wears the Chaco Zong, and she says the footbed is comfortable and has more arch support than all others she has looked including Teva. THey have a Vibram sole so that it is possible to resole the sandals. They are also more adjustable for comfort than the Teva.

I have the Z2 sandals. Love 'em. Mine have been resoled once. They're comfortable and always secure.

I've had my 8+ year old Z1's resoled twice and restrapped once. I wear them almost everyday. Nothing compares for me.

I've had a pair of Z2s for a few years. Grab 'em when I'm in a hurry or just doing a casual hike. I find them real comfortable and wear them as slip ons, tightening the strap only when hiking.

I also have a pair of Keen sandals that I like a little better, Newport H2s. These give a little toe protection but out here they will fill with sand.

Keen Sandals are the stuff. Toe protection & more comfortable than Teva.

Hmm, well I've been checking out Keen and I really like the look of the Venice model more than the Newport, looks more open to me. I'm wodering just how comfortable they are, and how they compare to the Chaco Z1 or Z2 I've pretty much decided to go with either Chaco Z1 or Z2 or Keen Newport or Venice, just would like some more info.

Hey Guys..

I'm with Ruger on this..

I own 2 pairs of Keens, all of my kids wear Keens and my wife will soon be wearing them..

They are by far the best sandal I've ever owned..
I've worn one pair straight for 2 years, including two winters, last winter I only wore hiking boots twice the entire winter...

Started off with Tevas years ago -- they were fine, but never really all that comforable. And I hate velcro on water sandals -- once they get gunked up with sand, it seriously compromises their useful life.

So, I replaced the Tevas with Chaco's (that I'd first read about on this board, actually!) Far, far superior -- very secure, comfortable even on long hikes. Excellent quality.

But ...

I think Keen's are even better. I originally got them because of the toe protection, but honestly, they fit my feet better than any other shoe I've ever worn. I've got numerous friends, both male and female, who say the same thing and swear by them. I've got the Newport H2's, as well as their low boot (can't remember the name). I finally killed my old boots, and while the replacement pair is still comfortable, it does seem like it's not contructed quite as robustly.

Fwiw, my feet are totally flat, no arch whatsover, so ymmv.
