So this is a freeze frame off my TV of a Scandi Grind knife Chandalar, the man that lives way off the grid in Alaska on the Nat geo ch series Life below Zero. You can obviously see its a fixed blade from Norway, looks like a burl handle. If you are to belive the storyline, he actually gets by fine with this knife for seemingly all his tasks. I dont even own a Mora(which this isnt but same design) but that certainly lends credibility to the cause of those who constantly state that is all you need is a scandi grind bushcraft style knife in the field. Again, who can be sure of how real a tv series is anyway.

It's a Helle Temagami or Helle Gaupe or Helle Fossekallen or Helle Eggen.

My wife watches that show!

I have a Helle Harding; a beautiful knife.

Yeah he's tough as nails. You ever see him drag a freshly killed and gutted caribou the 8 miles back to his cabin? He thinks it's fun. Barely breaks a sweat.

For the most part, I think that show is relatively true. And those guys and gals are a rare breed of mental toughness for sure.

And to keep it knife related, I think they all carry knives...:)

mental toughness for sure! He doesnt even grimace flipping a canoe or jumping in icewater for any reason!

He loves that ice water dip lol always does it & he takes his time getting out and getting back to the cabin, so you can tell it's not just for show. He's nuts!

Totally agreed - definitely takes a rare soul to brave those areas and that unforgiving weather. Living off the grid like that is harrrrd work just to get every day basics taken care of. Glen walked 15 miles a few shows ago just to hunt a moose or a caribou and then had to drag it back another 15 miles home.

That's why I love when I hear the "millennial" yuppie-types in NY talking about how they would love to move to Alaska and be out in the wilderness all alone. I guess they forget there's no catering or bus-boys to tend to their every whim. They wouldn't last a day. An hour.
