Changing the thumb stud on my new Benchmade Osborne 940 from REI for a longer one

Hello,

I was hoping someone could provide some guidance on changing the thumb stud on the Benchmade 940 for something like the Gerber Fast Draw F.A.S.T assisted opening blade. I like the longer stud on the Gerber because I can open it one-handed and quickly. I cannot do that with my new Benchmade because the stud is too short.

Links for the knives to see them just in case.

Has anyone changed theirs out?
Is this easy enough to change?
Where can I find the correct stud?

Many thanks and TIA.

You can swap the stud out for a longer one of the same style. Many aftermarket options out there.

i have a few knives that i’ve swapped the regular stud out with one from a 950 on the show side of the blade, while keeping the original stud on the back of the blade. this way the longer stud won’t catch on my pocket & wave the knife open when drawing it from my pocket. the adamas studs work well too but they’re not threaded the same as the regular studs so it’s not possible to have a shorter stud on the back side of the blade

Do you know of a brand or stud that works with this knife, the same threads and all, and that is longer than the OEM studs?

What side is the show and what is the back?

Thanks!

i’m not sure which aftermarket thumbstuds would have compatible threads with ones from benchmade, i’ve only ever used ones from the company itself. any studs that are marketed for benchmades shoult fit, they’re threaded into each other, not the blade itself. the show side is the one that faces inward when you hold the blade in your right hand, blade edge down. the side with the butterfly on it. the back is the side with the blade steel on it

here’s a pic i took a while back with 698 on the left, with a half 950 stud & a half regular stud. the 15080 on the right has a set of adams studs on it

I will have to find out then, I am hoping someone else here knows. You can see how the Gerber sticks out further than the Benchmade one. I need this for pulling up against my pocket with one hand.

I wasn't sure if they were standard or if there is a certain one I must buy. What is BMS ahold fit? I am not sure if the Benchmade are threaded onto each other as I haven't taken it apart yet.

Thanks for clarifying. I figured the show side was the side in your right hand, but didn't want to assume because some lefties get upset and some blades are bilateral, ambidextrous, or for both hands as is my Benchmade 940.

sorry, i should read over my posts before putting them up. was trying to say that anything marketed for a benchmade should fit almost any of their knives, as far as i know they’ve only done a few models, such as the 530/531, that have a different hole size for the thumbstud. all studs (production & aftermarket) should screw together as the hole in the blade isn’t tapped. were you looking for something to wave the knife open emerson style? i’ve seen aftermarket wave attachments sold on ebay that replace one side of the studs that are made to catch on your pocket to open the knife as you draw it

But is there a tapped hole in the 940? I haven't taken it apart yet. I was looking to open it with my pocket yes, but not the Emerson style with the wave on the top of the blade (I had to look that one up to see). Just a longer stud. If the stud is long enough it grabs onto the inside of my pocket and makes it easier to open up with one hand like the Gerber I posted.
If I know the side of the screw hole and the screw it takes then I can probably figure it out but I don't know that and there are so many options out there. I didn't want to order one online that wasn't the right size. There are also these others that clip on I see that would maybe do the same thing.

I did see some here:
