This may seem like something simple to all you experienced collectors, but for someone new to it, it would be helpfull.

Is there somewhere on the web where I can find an illustrated guide to what different knife patterns are and what they look like?

I have some knives that I don't know what to call them.

Thanks

Elliott's link is great, he beat me to it, but dont you forget to show us the knives, even if you do know what to call 'em.

Related to knife patterns, here are a couple of illustrations of different blade types, from old Western Cutlery and Schrade Cutlery Company catalogs. It's a good day when you score a knife with a blade with this much character.

Great information. In reading Jackknife’s great writings. (Thanks Jackknife) I was wondering what is the difference from a stockman and a premium stockman pattern. Thanks all.

Usually a premium stockman is serpentine while a regular stockman is typically an equal end.

Gus I may be wrong as I can be but I think a premium stockman is by size, and a equal end is a cattleman pattern...

The sources mentioned thus far in this thread are quite helpful.

The book written by author Bernard Levine, "Levine's Guide To Knives and Their Values, 4th Edition." has a section about vast numbers of knife patterns and there origins, as well as a wealth of much more valuable information. In my opinion its the very best source that exists to date.

Please, also show us your traditional pocket knives as well.

+1 from me. I use mine regularly as a reference.

Me too Elliot.

Its right here next to my PC along with a few other choice references. But, it surpasses most of them with its valuable uncommonly detailed content.

As far as knives go it really is the Gospel according to St. Bernard. :D
