Just looking for opinions and info on Chaves Knives. They look nice. I'm on the look out for a new Ti frame lock non-flipper under $500 and the Redencion looks sweet.

Anyone own or have handled Chaves knives ? What's the consensus ?

To date , I have yet to find a Ti frame lock I like better than the Spyderco Fluted Ti Military.

Keep in mind I've only seen pics and videos and read numerous reviews.
I like the shape of the blade but the handle is a bit plain. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you want to get it pimped out after you buy it. I like the skull clip and it looks pretty secure if not a bit stiff. It uses caged bearings instead of PB washers. I'm not personally a fan of bearings but that's down to personal taste and not a statement of function or efficacy.
Based on what I've seen it looks easy to maintain and it's a fairly straightforward design allowing for easy disassembly, cleaning, reassembly. The one thing I seen mentioned time and again is how stiff lock up can be.
I may end up getting one for myself somewhere down the line but I really want to get my hands on one before taking the plunge.
Good luck.

Yes ,I think I will handle one before I buy. And I agree that it is a rather plain looking knife but that sort of appeals to me at the moment. And (for me) it's a different brand. One I haven't heard of or seen much of. I'm always curious about knives (esp Ti frame locks) that fly below the radar but are of excellent quality. I was wondering if Chaves may be such a brand.

If I raise my $500 cap I may go for a custom. But most custom Ti frame locks seem to be flippers. And I hate flippers. But $500 (or under) is where I'm comfortable.

Great knives, great quality, feels great in my hand...Sure its bulky and thick and definitely not for EDC, but each knife has their place and use.
I really like my Redencion 228, no complaints here. You really have to handle one to appreciate it...

The redencion is a sweet blade, I got in on the first round of the initial offering and still have mine. Its big, bulky, and not the best for EDC. That being said, I don't mind a bug bulky blade, and the hollow grind actually gives you a decent cutting edge. The geometry on the tip is a bit thicker, but not obtrusive. If you get one your thumb will be sore for a week or two. Between breaking in the detent, and the extreme lockbar pressure I nearly sent mine back, but within about 2 weeks my thumbs had toughened up and the action broke in to the point I can easily middle finger flick it. Here is a full review I did when I first got mine:

The clip is up there IMHO with the Praetorian Ti as the goofiest of all time. Other than that, it's an awesome specimen of the genre.

I remove the clips from all my knives so the clip is of no concern.

The more pics I see of this knife the more I like it. I think this knife looks great.

Are those Torx screws on the knife ?

I have been eye-ing a Rendicion 228 for a bit. The 228 owners in this thread seem happy w/ theirs. I do like beefy folders (within reason) and don't see it being problematic for edc at all.

I'm in total agreement. Damn you 😊

Just my 2 cents on it...way overpriced. If you put a common blade steel in it's place it could easily blend in with MTech Knives and other makers of 'zombie apocalypse' knife brands.

Medfords use D2 , CRK uses S35VN , Strider uses S30V (among others steels) , and they're all well-built Ti frame locks. So are all these brands overpriced ? Possibly. But the Chaves Redencion 228 seems to be priced similarly. And have you seen those tolerances ? Awesome !

My opinion is that they are uglier than a fish with teeth.

My bud has this problem...if asked...he'll give his opinion. Doesn't please everybody all the time.
But yeah, the 228 is a smaller version and is still a beast at 7.7 ounces or so. Looks like a Sebenza that got straighter and fatter all at once. I have zero need for such a knife, but lots of folks seem to hanker for it...and that's great. That blade is about the thickness of a SMF, so yeah, if you REALLY want to cut your car in half...
It is surely industrial-strength, and for you guys who want/need such a knife, it's likely a very good one.
I'm not too sold on the clip...and wish....well, yeah, I want a thinner/lighter knife...like my Sebbie.

I've decided that I must have a brand new Chaves Redencion 228.

Sometimes I just can't help myself.

Then just a little while ago when I showed a friend the Chaves online , he asked if I'd be just as happy with a Ti Military. I didn't really have an answer. The non-Fluted Ti Military is a sweet looking knife after all.

Looking forward to seeing/reading your impressions. This thread made me start looking into his knives and I am intrigued...
