hey guys i was just wondering if benchmade had any good knives for under $50? pics would be nice, but if not i'll just look them up. thanks.

They have their Harley Davidson line that are mostly less expensive. I think the mini-griptilian is the cheapest Benchmade, around $85 discount price, but they are great.

For $50 or under I would suggest that you look at Spyderco or Kershaw. Also recommended here are the Ontario Rat 1 and the Kabar Dozier folder, for a lot less than $50.

You might be able to get one of the discontinued Red Class. You might want to go to the Benchmade forum which is on their website.

If you could save a few more bucks, you could buy a TRULY nice EDC in the form of a Harley Davidson Nagara made by Benchmade. Awesome knife in practically every way and what I'd classify as a gentleman's folder. Or a motorcyclist's folder, take your pick :) Really, though, a high-quality beautiful knife for the price.

Why Benchmade? Are you looking for a knife with the Axis lock? Benchmade used to have a cheaper Red Class that was made in China, but they dropped it and moved some of those models to the HK and HD lines. They have a few good offerings, but honestly I don't think they're very competitive under $50. You'd be better off with something like a Kershaw at that price.

Mini grip can be had for much less than $85.

There are lots of benchmade knives for under $50. All of them are "good" depending on your intended use. Maybe a little more description of what you are looking for in particular?

well i'm looking at benchmade because I've heard good things about them and wanted to try them out but if they don't have anything under $50 i;ll stick to the other brands thanks.

imo i dont think ull find much, im not an expert but when i look around i havent seen any benchmades under 80, benchmade is a more expensive brand, imo alot of there stuff seems over priced

That is an unfair comment, because you've never owned one. Other than a few QC issues lately, they make very fine knives. Their black class knives are in the ballpark of higher priced Spyderco knives.

ik i havent owned 1 and i dont have the budget to be able to justify 1, it was just an opinion and alot of people who do own them say alot of their stuff is more then it needs to be

Those are other people's thoughts, not yours. Like I said, the only way to tell for yourself is to actually own one.

i cant justify paying that, i havent owned a Bentley but there over priced.
what makes them so much better that they need to cost an average price of 140?

Overpriced? Kind of depends on what you're looking for. If all you care about is the utilitarian aspect of the knife, then yes, they're overpriced. But they do seem to put more effort into finish and appearance than a lot of other companies, which is good if you want a really nice knife. They've been pretty good at creating a sense of exclusivity around their products, so a lot of people immediately shy away from them and claim they're overpriced based just on that. But when you look at the knives they're actually comparable to, they're not that much different from the Spydercos and Kershaws (or ZTs) at the same price point. The difference is just that they don't have the cheaper lines as well.

There are certainly some brands out there that only capitalize on their name, but I don't think that applies here. The additional cost is felt in the product; there are usually reasons why certain items are more expensive than others. An Enlan will work fine as a knife, but then there are knives like Sebenzas. Just because you specifically can't appreciate the little details that make the higher end product more expensive doesn't mean they're overpriced; the profit margin might not be all that different.

Well for one they are made in the USA. I'd much rather put money towards a US company than mainland China (not getting into politics). Also, you get a knife that has high tolerances with a great warranty to back it up.

That's for you to decide. The more you get into knives, the more you begin to appreciate minor quality nuances and characteristics that are rarely present in "lower-end" knives. The same goes for anything else. A $50,000 house and $1 million dollar house are technically both the same in that you can "live" in both of them. Much beyond that is budget and personal preference.

A $5 knife cuts things; so does a $500 knife. Is the difference worth it to you? Not meaning to be condescending, but the two imagined knives I speak of at both price points are completely different to someone that considers themselves a hobbyist or enthusiast. There's a reason that otherwise middle-class and frugal folks are willing to dish out $400+ for a CRK folder. To them, it's just worth it.
