Cheaper handle bolts

I have been wanting to use handle bolts but they can be pricey. Are there any bolts that you could find at the hardware store that can be used for knives? I think on a rustic style knife just normal hex bolts can look cool on wood but for something a bit nicer?

There's another thread running on removable handle scales. I posted some links to some mcmaster carr hardware I use. It may work for you.

Look up "chicago screws". Local hardware stores like Handyman are more likely to have a good selection than a big box store, but online you will probably find them much cheaper.

I don't know if you have checked pops or not but he sells Corbey's by the pair. Something like 2.50ish that's not to bad. I have been using 5/16" and 3/8" round stock for large pins on large knives

I was thinking of bolts that are not ground down after fitting, should have mentioned that. I really like the look of chain ring bolts so that's where I was getting high prices.

Go on Ebay, you can get some from China for really low prices

These are what I have been using almost exclusively for the last year. I really like the 3/16" ones with the 1/8" post diameter. They seem to fit with most of my designs well, and they are only $2 a pair. The counterbore drill can be purchased at pops (where the bolts are purchased as well) for $15 iirc. That combo is pretty cost effective, considering most of the conterbores I found on places like Jantz or USAKnifemaker end up costing some outrageously high price.

I use stainless steel Chicago screws from knife kits or index fasteners the 2 parts are about 60 cents so about 1.20 a knife
