Checkering file help...

I would like to have your opinion; I want to buy a checkering file to create
thumb serrations the spine of my blades, but I do not know which size to
choose... Since this files are expensive, I would not like to make the wrong
choice...

I plan to use them on medium size knives (8"-12")... I would like to obtain
something like the serration on this beautiful Blackwood knife.

Sheffield sell three models: 20, 30 and 40 line per inches... But but I have
difficulty to imagine which is best...

Do you use this type of file? If yes, how much line per inches?

i use chain saw files. they range from less than a 1/8" to 3/8" works for me. call trugrit. 909-923-4116 thats were i get mine.
 
I use a 20 line checkering file for decorative work and it is just coarse enough for me. Too many lines per inch will no show well.

For thumb grips I use a dremel with a cutoff wheel then hand file for eveness about 10 lines per inch. This allows me to leave a flat between each serration, easier on the thumb.

Does anyone know if they sell a checkering file that has less than 20 lines per inch? ...say 10 LPI, like George mentioned, but in an actual checkering file? If so, can someone post a source? Thanks! :)

This place is going to be stocking 10LPI, I believe. They also stock the rest of the sizes. I use a 35-40 LPI(#1), and it looks/works great.
I don't like serrations to look like sawteeth.

They sell checkering files for $24.50, and 25.50, depending on LPI.
They also resharpen dull checkering files for $5.00, and they come out sharper than new. They sharpen regular files, end mills, taps, carbide rotary files, etc.
Call Mark and get a catalog, he'll send you some coupons good for two file resharpenings at N/C.
Edited to add; Here is some normenclature on checkering files.

00 = 20LPI
0 = 30LPI
1 = 40LPI
4 = 75LPI
