the genuine Vic/Wenger and leatherman is 10/10

I have this little Victorinox for well over a decade now and not that long ago i got a freebie chinese knock-off that i gave to a friend of mine. He wrecked it in a matter of days by normal usage (cutting cord, cardboard, etc.). Maybe it's 10 times cheaper but at the rate of 1 destroyed "knife" every couple of days it would literally take about 1000 of them to replace my still perfectly functional Victorinox for 10 years ... and 1000 of those knock-offs aren't cheaper than one or even a couple of the real thing. WHo knows how long this Vic of mine will hold on, either way i definitely got far more than 10 times the usage out of it thanit would from a knock-off.

as I know, chinese copy of SAK dont have serrated blade , so you can not ( or not easy ) cut cord with an plain edge. And honestly, for the same job ie cutting the cardboard or the apple or open the bottle, the chinese copy DO THE JOB as good as the genuine ones

I m not advocate of the bad knock-off. But the difference of price is so big...

I think a lot of us is psychologically addicted for the name, the brand. Even ME some time. Long time ago...

I own some chinese SAK copies (bought some years ago, when I was a kid and didn't know a lot about the difference with Victorinox and Wenger SAKs)

my review about it is totally bad! this one is for the copy of the swisschamp I have right now in the hand:

-dull blades
-horrible scissors (weak useless spring, it opens the scissors on less than half the edge of them)
-the same for the pliers, and the pliers seem very weak, I wouldn't trust them for something else than holding very small thing (not to use it like pliers)
-dull saw
-completely useless file, both sides are just metal with some lines crossing it, not deep enough and with too space between them to make it a file
-bad magnifier
-dull can opener
-dull awl, and to sharpen it would mean to remove 1mm of metal out of it
-the two chisels have no edge, they're square on the end. don't need to mention it's totally useless.

what's good about it:
-each blade closes well (too much in fact, I needed a screwdriver to open some of them)
-it's cheap
-it makes me think I will continue to buy my SAKs from Victorinox.

One of life's greatest joys is using an excellent quality tool. IMHO wether that tool is a multitool, or a wrench, or an air tool, or a frying pan, or what ever it may be, half the joy of doing something is the enjoyment you get from using, handling, and owning a really great quality tool. Harbor Freight and some of the other companies that specialize in China import tools and other items has made a huge variety of junk available at a very reasonable price. For me I would rather have one really great quality tool, than a whole drawer full of junk. Another way to get something really great for a reasonable price is to buy it used. Sometimes you can find it used close to the price of what you will pay for the junk copy. The other thing to consider is if you ever go to sell the junk copy you will probably have to give it away.

JEP728, a man after my own heart. I categorically will NOT buy a rip off of anything. Its kills or at least hurts the initial maker and reduces creativity. I'm so sick of seeing POS flood the market and put old makers out of business.

Let the Chinese come up with something of their own, then I may buy it, until then I for one will not support their design theft.

A well intentioned person gave my son a knock of the Swiss Army tool two years ago. It didn't make it through the summer. That Christmas my son gave me the real thing. It's been on my belt since. No problems or issues with it. I don't support piracy or buy junk.

A solid, standard Victorinox SAK is between 20 and 30 US (some less). They last nearly a lifetime. I gave my brother a knock off and regret it, the quality was bad, implements bent etc. I got him a real SAK recently.

So 5 dollars of junk(plus it's a ripoff of the Swiss brand) vs. the real thing of quality at 20.00, is no contest.

As far as your leatherman copy, there is no comparison. I will never use a tool likely to break or fail.

Someday these copies may be almost as good, but right now they have a long way to go. PLUS, these brands are simply copying someone else's idea, and therefore CANNOT improve on them.

Please try a vic SAK and compare, I guarantee, you won't be dissapointed.
