Does anyone have a CR Pacific knife? What are your thoughts of the knife? I really like the looks and specs of it, and would love to get one ...
Your comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Tocan, welcome to the world of CRK fine knives. If you do a brief search under "Pacific" you will fine large amounts of Pos+ comments not only with the design but from usage. Drop down a couple days or posts. There's a great comparison on the Pacific and the Green Berets.

yes I have one. What would you like to know?

I think it is a wonderfull knife but I have not used it very much so I could not comment on that.

I actually ordered one today. I just recently got to handle one and I immediately fell in love. I'm not sure it will replace my Mk VI (hiking, backpacking, etc...), but I guess I'll know for sure once I get it.

The Pacific is my fave. fixed blade.
i use it allot at work and when im out in the wilds just having fun. i even use it in the kitchen where it does a surprisingly good job given how thick it is !
Its a blade thats well worth having

Thanks Guys! for all your comments.
How is the Blade sharpness retention and performance?
Also curious about the serrated part of the blade, how well does that work, do you wish it wasn't there, or do you wish it was larger?

Thanks again!

Here are some pics that I wish I had seen before purchasing.

Hope these may help some. Like I said I have not used it much since I first got it. No edge retention help from me. I will tell you that it came very very sharp. I could cut something with it to let you know how it works, but I have had no real use for it yet....

Kevin

P.S. I would never sell this knife though.... it just does not scream use me like some of my other knives....

The blade on mine was actually not as sharp as it could have been out the box, it only just shaved hair. but that was easily fixed !
I have given mine a good bit of use and some abuse, other than a bit if chipping on the edge when new (tiney chips nothing serious at all) i have had no issues. After sharpening it back the edge is doing just fine now.
The edge retention is pretty much what you would expect from s30v, i regularly go through many types of wood, fiberous and hard as well as rope and stuff with no issues to speak of. I usually try and touch up and strop the knife at the end of the day any way so its kept sharp rather than needing fully resharpened.
The serations are something i dont use a great deal but they do function well. The serations are on the knife to keep it multifunctional and they dont really get in the way, for me any way. I actually like the look of the stagered serations and they kind of add to the over all apperance of the blade, even if you dont have much use for them there worth having.

hope that helps

I noticed that my pacific came with a "convex" edge grind. (anyone else notice this?) It puts more steel into the edge and makes it stronger... indeed I did a good amount of chopping and there was no visible rolling or chipping. I guess the convex edge is a trade off of "scary" sharpness for a more durable edge which seems to make sense for a large fixed blade. I wish I had the capability to put a convex edge on a couple of my other large blades.

I get my first one later today...I am looking forward to a CRK knife with my favorite grind...

Richstag, Thanks for the great photos of the knife, the serrations look pretty fierce! Better shots than on the web! Just curious why the knife doesn't scream use me? Is it the cost of the knife?

Haze and JJK, Thanks for your reviews, how are you sharpening your knife Haze?

Tocan,

No its not the price and you are very welcome for the pics. Its the fact that its so pretty. Some people like the looks of worn off coating. I do aswell but I always have a hard time initially tearing up the coatings. I am much more prone to take out an uncoated blade and use it and scratch it all up.

To me scratches on a satin or polished blade looks much nicer than scratches on a coated blade.

I use the crap out of my new sebenza that is uncoated.

I have been using a new limited edition busse that cost twice as much and I use other knives that are pricier and cheaper but uncoated.

I did not want to use my Orca when I first got it due to the coating. I ended up kicking it into the sea floor to anchor a couple kyaks. Now I do not care at all and the marks make me think of the good times.......

Once I break the coated ones in I could give a crap less etc....

ITS A PURTY KNIFE!

Again I hope this helps:thumbup:

richstag, I totally understand now! Like having your first brand new car, you take really good care of it until you see your first scratch or dent in it...

I think I will have to get one now!

Thanks again everyone.

how are you sharpening your knife Haze?

I used a diamond "stone" to get the angle i want on the bevel then go to a smoothe ceramic stone to clean the bevel up, then i go to a charged leather strop or cardboard to finish things off.
As i say i tend not to let my knives get dull so i usually use a 25 micron ceramic stone and a strop to keep things sharp.

This knife looks great ! I'm a Busse fan but I can't resist to this blade look ! Could you guys suggest me a good place to order one ?
Thanks !

What are your first impressions? Where did you get it?

I am actually a new CRK dealer...so I am getting to handle a bunch of CRK knives for the first time.

It is a WOW knife. I am not someone who likes serrations--not even a little, but these are unobtrusive and very sharp. I prefer flat and convex grinds--so I like that a lot.

Handle feels great in the hand. I love the canvas feel of the Micarta. Of course, F&F are tops.

It is quite impressive. I really signed up with CRK knives for the folders, but wanted to look at the fixed blades. Guess what?? They are just as impressive. In fact, The first two CRK knives I sold were fixed.

:)
