Has anyone owned or handled a Citadel knife? I've recently seen one I liked the look of, but they do have a "pakimascus" vibe to them that worries me. They're supposedly traditionally Cambodian made knives, which also sets of alarms. I'm hoping someone has some insights...

I think they are good looking most of em anyway😉.....Carbon steel and nice handles what's not to like.🤔

Carbon steel.

I don't like carbon steel. My dad beat it into me since I can remember. "Stainless is the only steel worth having." I also don't like high maintenance things, so stainless is the clear winner there as well as the obvious corrosion resistance.

I honestly didn't know that they used carbon. The websites I've found them on say nothing about the steel used at all. Actually, after saying that, I think I'll steer clear of the brand for now. Too much unknown for my comfort and lack of info is a huge red flag.

Years ago there was a liner lock model with white/natural ray skin scales that I LOVED the look of. Wasn't cheap.. but I had similar reservations to the OP.
I dont think I've ever actually seen a Citadel knife IRL.

I can't recall ever seeing one owned by anyone even online. It's just strange.

Nothing wrong with carbon steel........ Easier to sharpen than stainless by a long shot......Minimal effort to prevent rust too.....Pops gave you a bum steer bud......However, as you dig deeper in this hobby you will learn...😉... Enjoy your knife journey👌

Appreciate it, but I care almost nothing for ease of sharpening as I almost never use my knives. So being more corrosion resistant is the more important feature/function for me. Even if I did care about the ease of sharpening I'd still prioritize corrosion resistance over it. A rusty blade can be catastrophic, or at the very least a real pain, but one harder to sharpen is just a matter of time. Easy choice for me! I'm very firmly in the never carbon camp.

But to each their own always applies. More carbon blades for the rest of you! 😉

Also I don't want this devolving into a worthless discussion about something this post was never about and i have zero interest in hearing about. If you don't mind that is.

I have this one for 15 years, they were just starting their business. Bamboo and water buffalo handle. Been using it extensively as a kitchen knife. Steel is softer than chamallow but quite easy to sharpen. Acquired a nice patina. Overall one of my favorite knives, it has personality.

i heard this was a french managed company , based in cambodia. steel is forged that maybe is the reason why they use carbon steel, this firm seems like a family business to me, rather than a international and competitive firm.

This is the one that always grabbed my attention- the Husky, with ray skin scales. I always enjoyed the look and feel of ray on Japanese fixed blade knives, so the uniqueness of it being implemented on a folder seemed cool.
Not enough to actually buy one though... plus I don't like liner locks.
