I just got this Stormridge knife today. I've had the Tamashii for a while. I am amazed at the quality you get for the money. I have many many knives and these are right up there with the best of them. I have ordered many custom kydex sheaths at 40 to 50 dollers a pop and none are made better than these. I have no financial interest in Civivi. Just had to give them a shout out even if they are made in China.View attachment 2460660

They are cheap because of where they’re made. I don’t doubt the quality but I do question why the cheap price when other knives of similar quality are selling for much more. I really doubt it’s just to benefit the American consumer. 😉

I've handled a couple Civivi folders and while they seemed well-made for the price, they didn't resonate with me. The fixed blades, on the other hand, I think are really something special. The cnc bevelling details on these are something you don't see until you start getting into the hundreds of dollars with western fixed blades, and even then it's rare. I'm guessing other Chinese companies have the capabilities to make fixed blades like that but haven't identified that part of the market or linked up with the right designers. Civivi and We Knife seem to cater specifically to Americans; fixed blades like that aren't legal to carry in much of the rest of the world.

The Tamashii is really a standout, I have the exact same version.

They should say, "Made By A Robot in China". Very little human hands, if any, touched that thing.

I have a few WE knives. Same thing as the Civivi but made with more expensive materials. Like titanium vs stainless liners.

They're one of the better mass produced knives on the market.

Good to hear nice things of Civivi. Especially the fixed blades as have been looking at those lately. Only thing is for me, not a big fan at all of full flat grinds. Not saying they don't perform as hell but they too boring for me. Nonetheless think Civivi has made the FF as stylish as possible. I've been on the fence for awhile and still probably won't make the leap unless by a trade or something but do really like some of their folders. I've owned a couple of the copper handled w/damascus and there is a lot of bang for your buck there. One of my favs' is the Praxis. In fact, just have on order the new button lock version as think it will give the Mordax a serious run for its money. I've never handled a Mordax but the Praxis is a thing of ergonomic joy and kind of reminds of the handle imprint on the Inkosi somewhat. Civivi just nailed it and perfected the choil to choke up while still giving tons of belly in a full size folder. Never had a button lock Civivi but know it isn't their first go at 'em so hopefully they ironed out the bumps. Like the other fella said, so long as Civivi has their own designs and doesn't infringe on copyright, why not support them?

They do make nice stuff for the money.I didnt even know they made a fixed blade. Sencut is another sister company of We and Civivi, its another band to look at.

They are good quality for the money. As far as the other comment about human hands touching them, the lower price and good base quality has encouraged me to explore different modifications. The first one here is a Sencut that I really like and is the only stock one among these pictures. The others have been modified in one way or another, including scale swaps, lock-bar mods, and refinished scales. They tend to get nice wood for the wooden scales and they can be made even nicer with a little love.

I EDC fixed blades - a CIVIVI Tamashii being in the current rotation. The fit and finish is on a level with any other company using CNC machines, because CNC is numbers, not any particular maker's skill. And they don't seem to skimp on CNC time, the detail work is good. D2 instead of S35VN or better, but for around $75 I consider it well worth the price.

They're very impersonal.

Quality of the CAD file.

The robot can be relocated. Repeating result.

Self check out line but in a knife. Mr Terminator made it.

China? No way they're doing this. It's a CAD file of a knife.

The bearings ain't that smooth.

Wow, a lot of hate getting thrown around here it looks like. I want you to show me where the bad Civivi touched you.

Look I like USA made any time I can, 99 percent of my collection is USA made......but you'd be a fool to handle a Civivi and not appreciate what you get in materials, fit and finish, and design for the price. There are very limited to no options at same price point for a domestic made blade.

Like it or not, China has the ability to produce high quality blades, these are light-years ahead of what you'd see decades ago.

For all the haters 😄:

I keep seeing comments like this but can't the same be said of quality production knives in general? (That said, there is such a thing as low-quality handmade craftsmanship or poor quality with lots of hands on deck.)

I'm reminded of a comment I've seen elsewhere that these knives "have no soul". What the heck does that even mean? Setting aside any ridiculous metaphysical implications, isn't that a matter of design? If so, lots of talented designers work with companies like WE. It isn't just big names like Ray Laconico or Ostap Hel. I really like some of the in-house designs coming out of these companies.

As far as bearings, I'd say Civivi (and WE in general) does a decent job. Kizer is probably the best for stuff like "drop shut" action. (Heck, Kizer recently released a sub-$50 budget knife running on multi-row ceramic bearings.) BTW, how many of these knives have you tried and to what depth? What is the comparison class when you say they "ain't that smooth"?
