I saw the CIVIVI McKenna a while back, but never pulled the trigger. Something about the shape of the blade and/or the handle never quite looked right to me. Recently I started looking for a front-flipper to add to my collection. I never had one and they always intrigued me. As I searched for reviews the McKenna kept coming up. After reading numerous reviews and watching videos, I admit the unique design started to grow on me. I tried to resist but eventually caved in and ordered a OD green model.
This is a real nice knife. The action is tuned near perfect. This is my first front flipper and it only took me seconds to get the hang of it. I can flip with my thumb or over the top with my index finger easily. The detent is near perfect. The blade will drop shut with a shake after unlocking the liner lock. The blade is very thin with a very sharp even flat grind. The G-10 handles feel good with some minimal scaling which makes it easy to grip but won't tear up your pockets. The green color is a deep OD green that looks better in person than the web pics. The McKenna weighs just 1.8 oz that in conjunction with the slim profile and deep pocket clip, makes it very easy to carry. For someone who likes smallish lightweight knives this is a homerun. IMO the McKenna is a little on the expensive side for a smallish knife (under 3") with a D2 blade and G10 handles especially when compared to similar CIVIVI models. I assume the additional cost is because of the Elijah Isham design. This is my second CIVIVIV knife and I am very impressed with the quality. I will not hesitate to add this into my EDC rotation immediately.
