Hey All,

I have an Atoma 140x that I was using to help create a bevel on an old Japanese/Chinese (??) cleaver that is non-stainless. The Atoma plate now has a gold/rust/patina to it. What is the proper way to clean that off? Thanks!

I use bar keepers friend. Don't leave it on to long. It will clean right up.

Mind has just started to develop this sheen... not worried about it, the diamonds will shine though just fine.

A smaller stiff bristle brush works well. Plastic bristles don't work as well. Using whatever you choose as a detergent or cleaner.

If plastic bristles don't work, what is that smaller stiff bristle brush that works well made of?

Do you also happen to know why plastic bristles don't work?

Bar keepers friend or an ultra sonic cleaner with dawn is what I use on my DMT's. Both will work quite well from my experience, though be careful with the barkeepers friend as it deserves some respect to not get in your eyes and to wash your hands after dealing with it.

I would be very carefull using abrasive cleaner. The nickel plating is delicate on the finer Atomas.

I use BreakFree on my DMTs, have for decades. A thin film left overnight lifts the swarf (metal particles) so it can be wiped off with a soft cloth.
