Coffee beer that offers a perc-me-up

"Two of the more traditional hangover cures have been combined into a single drink – a beer made with coffee.

The brew, which contains the same amount of caffeine as a cappuccino, has been launched as a lunchtime pick-me-up as well as a more sophisticated evening accompaniment to chocolate and desserts.

Its makers, the micro-brewery Meantime, based in Greenwich, London, warn that it is not a beer to get drunk on, not least because its high caffeine content could leave drinkers feeling hyperactive.

Peter Haydon, of Meantime, described the drink, which goes on sale in Sainsbury's from today, as a "dark mellow beer" with hints of vanilla and malt.

It has around four per cent alcohol and is ideally served chilled."

Coffee beer?? Hangover my a$$!!! This concoction is strictly for the, "I don't really like the taste of beer or coffee. I just really like to pi$$!!" crowd. :)

These are two great tastes that don't go great together! Yuck! :barf:

I really like riding roller coasters.
I really like chicken soup.
I do not want to eat chicken soup on a roller coaster.

Some things do not belong together.

A friend of mine was in France many years ago and upon a local recommendation tried gin in coffee. He said it wan't that bad. I tried it once and it was terrible.

What a great topic. I'm actually doing this in my toxicology class. Something to do with alcohol absorption.

Turns out coffee doesn't do much to lower alcohol concentration in your blood. It's a diuretic and so is alcohol so you'll be more dehydrated than if you didn't drink the coffee.

So basically you'll just be pi$$ing a lot.

Actually, it's been around for quite some time: McCharbucks/RedHook have been brewing a Coffee Stout for several years... It's not bad, but I have grown rather disgusted with the quality of McCharbucks product...

And for a stout, I'm afraid nothing holds up to Guiness! (although, for a real kick in the a**... nothing beats Black Butte Porter blended 40/60 with Pike Place Kilt Lifter... with a combined 7%+ on the alchy meter !!!  )

There have been coffee-based microbrews around for a while. They dial in pretty high on the 'octane' meter, but it's not for me.

What's wrong with an Irish coffee? Or a sombrero? I haven't tried it but ... I haven't tried bacon-flavored ice cream either -- and I'm not going to! I am standing firm in my ignorance -- I refuse to believe that beer and coffee go well together.

I love coffee.

I love beer.

... combining them for a hangover cure? Nah. I already have a hangover cure... I call it "A shot of whiskey." :D

Many moons ago, a buddy & I would close the bars & wind up @ his place w/ a few friends & the drink of choice was Folgers instant coffee laced w/ Johnny Walker Red. Wired & sloppy drunk @ 5 am... Had a bunch of good ideas about how to save the world & never wrote anything down.
Seemed like a good idea @ the time...

I'm not sure I'd like it, but I've done worse.
Vanilla ice cream is okay in coffee, but definitely, for sure, no way you want to try it in a Bud. Beer float... what was I thinkin'? :barf: :barf:

Does the world seriously need hyperactive drunks?

Reminds me of when Homer Simpson took those No Doze pills and the depressents and stimulants battled it out. ;)

That was nothing compared to when he ate the chili that had the Guatamalan Insanity Peppers in them.
