Anybody know what size coil springs the BM 5000 uses? Knifekits.com offers the Mega torque and the Maxx torque springs but I don't know which size to order. Any idea which (the maxx or the mega torque) would be better? Looking for a faster-than-factory opening action but I don't want to beat the crap outta the stop pin either....

Also, I didn't see the omega style springs for the axis lock on Knifekits.com. Do they not sell em?

What is the level of difficulty to disassemble/reassemble the BM 5000? I'm not a rocket scientist but I can work on my Sebenza and Endura4 with no problems. The Presidio can't be much more complicated, I wouldn't think. Any experiences to share?

I haven't heard of anyone selling the omega springs. I have had to make my own and have used mig welding wire and they are still working. I did have to make 2 springs as just replacing one ended up with the AXIS bar being loaded unevenly. The wire diameter on my Rift was 0.025"

I did just notice that my local ACE hardware carries 0.025" piano wire. Not sure if it is any better than the MIG wire. I know the MIG wire is not stainless and will rust some, not sure about the piano wire.

I'm not sure about the coil spring but I would be willing to bet the website might have a compatibility chart of certain knives for the various springs they sell. Can't hurt to contact them and ask if they know.

Good luck

If I'm not mistaken, the .43 spring from knifekits will work. The maxx torque spring will give you the extra kick you want.As for the disassembly,PATIENCE,just take your time and don't get frustrated.:D

I've dissasembled and repaired several auto presidios and you'll have a problem getting the spring back in to the slot and the blade hole at the same time. I can't remember if it has to go in the hadle slab and then pin into the blade then rotate the handle slab into position or the other way around since it's been a while since I've done it, but that's the tricky part everything else is pretty basic.

the hardest part is coiling the new spring :D

other than that, it's a cake walk if you have any mechanical notion.

just buy extra springs, knifekits totally worth it if you buy springs in bulk, shipping costs are so high, why not spend $20 on parts if you're gonna pay $10 for shipping. never know if you might get another knife that could use a new spring.

Hey did you ever figure anything out about of the mig wire or piano wire is better used as a coil for a knife spring or which one is stronger metal ?? I'm guessing that mig wire is what all knifes springs or made of? Or or some made of different stuff? And what is the strongest metal in the world and wouldnt that be the best one to make them out of ? Sorry for all the questions yes I'm a newbie but just want to learn I love knifes especially autos so much of oh just to be clear is the spring in a axis auto the same coil spring that or In regular push button switch blades?

Hey I
Was wondering you see I have a Benchmade axis folding knife that I got off someone it wasnt exactly a gift you see some guy had taken my Armando b Italian switch blade from my room without asking to use it and then ended up giving it to his friend to barrow again without asking me and he ended up gettinga
Arrested and so it's gone so I took his bm anyway I'm not sure what the name was again I think could be the one you guys are talking about just not the auto o
I think it may be the spring assisted version when I start trying to open it it comes out on its own but I'd love it if it
Was Automatic so is there anyway I could maybe take it apart and convert it to an automatic axis ?? I have 3 coil springs 2 of them may be same size not sure but one is like 2 times
As big as them so maybe I could use it to do this or should I
Just get a spring made for bm? Would they be stronger? Thes came out
