Which style should I get? According to the CS site, specifications are the same for both, except the bowie is 0.3oz lighter
Both are priced the same and can be had for $18

I like the looks of the one on top, but that's just the "looks," I don't know much about cold steel other than I really like my new Voyager 4" tanto :D.

The original Bushman is the better one. There have been some reviews when the bowie first came out. Reviewers felt that the bowie was thinner, lighter and softer steel that the original. If you can afford it get them both, but original Bushman owners were disappointed with the functionality of the bowie.

I like the look of the original better aswell, but the uglyness seems to make the bowie look more "robust"

If I like whichever one I buy, I might get the other later on. But I only want one right now. So far I'm leaning towards the original. This will be my first Cold Steel.

Ive been looking at them also. Leaning toward the original. I like the idea of attaching it to a stick .

I have the original Bushman. There is no seam in the handle. Both sides look the same. I like the knife a lot.

Maybe that was how they made an earlier version. The one I have came from SMKW about 3 weeks ago. The seam is not visible. I think the flat top of the bladeon the original makes it handier to use than the bowie model.

I have the original Bushman from, oh at least 6 years ago. What a great knife for the money. I think I bought it for 13 bucks online as a camping knife. I was a poor college kid, and it offered a hell of a lot of knife for very little scratch.

I've put it through the ringer, and it is still very much alive today. Great beater knife:thumbup:

I've thought about getting the bowie, but I too have heard the complaints about them. I'm holding out for a definitive review;)

These Bushman spear knives are perfect for the backpack. I prefer the older discontinued small ones. They always worked great for me.

I have both. Bowie seems to be the better chopper, the original is better for stabbing. They are otherwise very close in usage. I personally use the bowie (because I can grip the wide blade easily for small jobs), and save the original for the B.O.B.

The whole idea behind the Bushman was to produce a simple, lightweight functional knife that doesn't get in the way, and cheap enough for true physical abuse.
The main drawback in this CS package, was the horrible sheath that came with it.
The Bushman in its original form -simply out performs its own criteria.
So the idea of having comeout with a poor mans Bowie in this case, is simply off the mark.
Once you consider that a wilderness survival Bowie-style knife is primarily designed for more heavy weight field duties, like chopping.
Meaning that it is preferable for a Bowie to have a thicker blade stock; and the knife having a "blade heavy" feel of balance.

I put up a Bowie style as a pass around on a survival forum have each person do some modding as they see fit then did a give away on it . No one changed the blade shape al the moding was in tricking up a kit . Most were pleaseingly suprised in the way the knife performed . I have the original Bushman and wish I had gotten one of the short ones also.

No seam? That was the only reason I was holding out. :) Plus between my Bolo and tru-flights I have gotten by when camping. I have heard nothing but good though so... Im in. :)

Does anyone know if the CS Bushman Bowie be thrown as successfully as the original/standard bushman was in the CS Solid Proof Demonstrational video?

Cheers.
