After prolonged lurking I'm about to pull the trigger on a Cold Steel Colossus 2 that I finally found new unused at a gunshop for 199.

Although it's out of production and even hard to come by on ebay that's still no cheap knife and there are competitive options in the CS lineup (4" Talwar comes to mind), but I absolutely love the funky look and overall uniqueness of this model.

I really think that this knife fills the perfect spot in between a Rajah 3 and a Spartan: it will slice like no other on the cutting board while at the same time holding on to some light chopping capability while weighing less and carrying better than a Spartan at the same time.

I'm only slightly concerned about IWB carry because with a thin handle the wave is probably going to be felt against the body and/or snag around, and some also report it being crooked to one side. Another worry is about the fact that while I do trust the DLC that Cs does, the other parts that are painted like the lockbar and clip might chip off and not age well with use.

What's your experience with this blade?
Curious to know what you folks think about it!

That model has always caught my eye, but I never owned one. That price is about what they were selling for when discontinued, so it seems a fair price for fairly uncommon knife. I’d say grab it if you really like it.

Edited to fix so many typos. 😖

The Talwar is my favorite CS giant folder. Really excellent slicer and way more comfortable in hand than it looks.

Easily done. The only reason I haven’t done Talwar is because I’d lose more blade length than I’d want to grinding a straight spine.

I prefer a lower point. A straight spined Talwar would lower the point. But, alas, also shorten it.

Thanks and sorry about that. I'm a relatively new user and didn't know about the subforum and unfortunately those threads weren't showing through googling. I will ask for this to be moved.
No need to be sorry . I just thought you might find out more on the sub . ;)

There used to be a really great video review of the Colossus , but I haven't bee able to find it again ...yet .

Very cool knife . Pretty unique and still useful .

Do not hit the thumb plate , if used for battening . It will break off ! It's actually a fairly thin blade and not great for splitting , anyway .

The very deep blade makes for a great slicer . Kind of a thin cleaver, with a point .👍👍

Thanks for the heads up!
I've watched many vids about this knife, and I've seen some people breaking that off.

Actually I do remove the the plate from all of my medium to large folders because they poke me when I IWB them, so I just take that off and leave the screw in all the way to avoid lint and moisture from getting in.

On the big ones like the Rajah II I have no problem just flicking them open without the stub, on the smaller ones like the Rajah III I either loosen the pivot slightly and/or polish the inside of the scales if needed for extra smoothness and they flick just fine.

Sometimes I even relief some tension off the spring and that way you can basically gravity drop the blade by pressing the finger on the lock. I've dome that on my Large Vaquero and it also became super fidgety as bonus because of that haha.

Here is the mini colossus...the Fox Zero 2.0 ;)
At least here in the EU it's pretty cheap btw.
