Hi guys

I was interested in purchasing the discontinued CS barong with the wood handle and sheath.
Anyone own one or think it is worth the $100 dollars? Are their cheap barongs any good for practice or are they too thin?
First time on this forum, usually live in WS&S.
thank you
Brad

I have one, and IMO they are worth $100.00 if you can find one.

I've read complaints about them being too big, but that is not the case. I have 2 other barongs, one from Kris Cutlery (a 1999 model) and one I bought in the Philippines, my dad has 2 from the Philippines and my sister has one from the Philippines. All of these are smaller than the CS barong, some are thicker and some are thinner. My aunt, however, has one larger than the CS barong, and it has been in her family for generations, so larger models did exist.

I have 3 complants about the CS barong.

One is that the handle is a bit thick for me. For people with larger hands it would be ideal and the Kris Cutlery barong would probably seem too thin. It is not so thick that I han't use it though. Wood can be removed it it is a problem.

Another is a minor one that is easily fixed with a file, and might only be on the 2nds. The pins stuck out of the handle.

The sheath isn't traditionally shaped. The traditional sheath is wider at the top so it won't fall through your belt/sash, but the CS sheath is the same with through most of its length. That really would only be a problem if you actually carry the barong in a sash.

These are all minor problems, and the barong is still a good deal at $100.00. You might want to pick of a Kris Cutlery barong as well, two barongs are better than one.

They are worth the $100.00 imho and then some. The size and shape is a direct copy of one from Ron Balicki's personal collection.

Exactly what I was going to say. Ron likes the more substantial grip.

Where did you find the discontinued ones? I can't find them anywhere. (if it's against the rules, just fire it off PM wise)

I have been wanting one, but kept putting it off. It's kind of dumb that they stopped making them.

CS might not be totally out of them. They occasionally put discontinued items that were not available for a few years in their sale catalogs, which they send you if you are on their mailing list.

I got mine in 2007 for $60.00.:D
