What are your experiences and/or view of the Cold Steel kukri machete vs the Cold Steel kukri plus machete.
Which one is the better , more effective, more powerful chopper...
I lean towards the regular kukri machete, without the guard.
They are nearly the same weight. And blade length is 13 inch for both..

:) The guards on the "Plus" models are mostly for safety and protection when used as a weapon . To prevent your hand from moving forward onto the blade when stabbing and to help block opposing weapons .

Not necessary for chopping things that don't fight back . Probably just get in the way . ;)

I have the magnum Khukri machete, with the 17 inch blade.

I'd go for the plus. There is no down side, and on the upside, the guard protects your digits.

It adds no real weight. It is in a spot where your finger will not notice it, unless you need it.

Yes, the guard is not of a hinderance. I noticed this too.
But isn't the blade of the standard kukri machete wider, thus more impact when chopping?

I do have to say that I have never had my hand slide forwards when stabbing, even on solid objects (wood).
Only one knife/machete where it did occur, is the Cold Steel Smatchet. The handle is a little wide for my hand. And a few times my hand did slide forwards when stabbing harder objects, and came into contact with the guard. Not hard, but it's not a good thing.
But with no other knife this happened. Not the CS Bowie machete ( I did crazy hard tests with that one), CS kukri machete , Mora knives... or whatever I can think of I have had in the past.

Ofcours, the guard on the kukri plus does offer some protection, both ways, from incoming blades, and the hand sliding forwards, in case it would happen ..
But the Gurkha soldiers have kukri's without guards. And honestly , I'm not worried about my hand sliding forward when doing some self defense stabbing so to speak.
The kukri plus blade is more narrow, so would be better for penetration regarding self defense...

Could it be said that the CS kukri plus is more suitable for combat due to the guard and more narrow plus , thus faster and more maneuverable?
Then again, the Gurkha kukri's have no guard...

Great chopper.
But I like the 13 inch blade length a little better.
The compactness of it I like.
That's why I also like the CS Bowie machete.
Those items are very wieldy/maneuverable..

The CS Royal kukri machete is also an impressive chopper.
Larger than the kukri and kukri plus machete.
But feels a little less wieldy to me. Which is weird, because its blade is only 2.5 inch longer...
