Anybody else thinking about getting one of these when they are available?

The Cold Steel Leatherneck Bowie Fixed Blade Knife has a wide bowie styled blade made from German D2 steel, and is 10 ½ inches long. Like the others in the Leatherneck series, it has a non-reflective black finish. It features a distinctive blood groove along most of its length, and of course it comes hair shaving sharp! The Kray-Ex handle is based on Cold Steel’s other Leatherneck’s standard design but it is enhanced with a longer guard and forward curving quillons.

I like the look of the blade, but the handle not so much.
I agree, it would look so much better with leather washers. As is those handles on the Leatherneck Tanto feel like the gips on a dirt bike I rode as a kid. Aside from the handle I wonder how the knife will balance in the hand at 16.7 oz and with a 10.5" blade?

For me it would depend on the price and reported performance.

Aside from the handle it reminds me a little of the Field Fighter sold in the early-mid 1990s by Robert K Spear. I serious doubt it had any influence since almost nobody would remember that knife.

I can see it replacing the Trailmaster in the niche the Trailmaster used to be part of before they doubled the price.

I've seen the Lynn Thompson version advertised at around $150.00 but still "coming soon."

I will probably order one, One hopes that Cold Steel can deliver something other than their lower tier fixed blade models soon.

I remember the Spear Field Fighter.
That's exactly what I thought of when I saw the Leatherneck Bowie for the first time.
I still have the book he released back then.
We're showing our age!

I actually trained with him a couple times when he was part of Bo Gritz's SPIKE training in the 1990s. I still have all his books but they are in the Philippines.
Wow!
For some reason that knife always stuck in my mind.
I know the design went through a few different makers.
I seem to remember Mineral Mountain Knife Works being one of the last to take it on.
I was very tempted to buy it way back then. I still have the original literature somewhere. I kept hoping that one of the factories would eventually produce it.
What goes around comes around!😉

I think this is the closest anyone will get to making the Field Fighter.

The odds of someone making the actual knife go down with each year.

Spear's description in one of the ads was "A Kabar on steroids" which could also apply to the Leatherneck Bowie, of course that is applying a brand name to a type of knife made by multiple companies.

If I get one and the price is significantly different between the two models it would be difficult to choose since the Lynn Thompson version looks much better than the standard one.

Blood groove? It's fuller...
Hair shaving sharp? What else do we shave? Nails???

Also D2 on really large bowie???
For leatherneck, it's sufficiently tough, it's hard and can handle impacts without edge damage, but THIS size?

I've seen video of normal D2 Leatherneck fail during batoning... D2 chopper should come with shrapnel warning IMO...

This premium, signature version should've AT LEAST been made in 4034 😆
