Hello,
I am new to the board and to the knife world. I am wondering if you folks know if the Cold Steels are made in the US or if they used to be and are no longer?
I saw a Tanto style Cold Steel knife at a pawn shop and it said USA on it. I have always thought for some reason that they are made in CHina.

Thanks

Cold Steel is a marketing company and makes nothing. They sell knives they have designed to their specs and they contract with various companies to do those designs. Most of the companies are Japan or Taiwan based companies.

In the past they contracted with Camillus to make some models of folders and fixed blades for them but since Camillus went out of business I don't know that Cold Steel is currently using a USA company to make anything they sell today.

There are people here that may know the answer to that question. Perhaps one of them will chime in later.

You mean how could you forget an obese man with his nuts hanging out of his 9th grade gym shorts throwing his knife/spear like 10 feet?

I know Cold Steel takes a lot of heat on the various forums and I am not a big Cold Steel owner myself but..................................

I do have to admit that it was the Cold Steel tanto that got me interested in collecting knives back in 1990 and I have one of the first run Cold Steel Voyager tanto folders that I have abused and eventhough the serrations are worn it still locks up perfectly.

I recently purchased one of the new 2010 mini AK-47's as a beater EDC folder as well. Other than that..................................I don't think about Cold Steel much these days.

My American Lawman is a fine folder. I know Cold Steel does take a lot of heat on here, but I've had really good luck with their products.

I like many of their products for basic value. You get some solid functional, tough stuff for not much money. Look at their 'hawks for example, which many of us have. Good foundations from which to mod. I think they fill a good niche in the market.

My first real knife was a Cold Steel Voyager, and more recently the company has released a few fantastic models, with more to come.

I'm still looking forward to the next gen Voyager as much as any other knife out there.

I know enough about knives to know some Cold Steel knives are decent, usable knives such as the American Lawman but unfortuately for Cold Steel, the stigma that stains them compells me to consider them much like I do Frost or United Cutlery for some sad reason.

sounds like many here arent fans of cold steel, my first decent knife was a Cold steel ti lite with the aus 8 steel and the zytel scales/handle. Was actually the first thing i bought with my first paycheck from my first job lol, always expected that delicate tip to break through edc use but never did.

I tend to agree though a few of there knives I do like. Something about there use of AUS8 and mirror finishes on everything however make me think cheap.

Well my first Cold Steel knife is the Braveheart, made in Japan.....and i do own a AK 47.

I've been extremely impressed with my two Taiwanese Cold Steel knives - a Recon Scout and an American Lawman. Bother have great build quality, design and in the recon scout department, stood up to some pretty decent abuse.

Here we go again...:grumpy: Every time a new thread about CS comes up it's the same: their vids suck, LCT even more, but CS has some useful knives nonetheless...and it doesn't matter what the OP intended with its thread. But I have to admit that people complaining about these issues also come up every time, which makes myself part of the problem. ;)
I only hope that this thread will soon disappear in the depths of the BFC.
