Hey guys, new member here.

I have a question. I am considering purchasing a Rajah 3. I have never spent that much money on a pocket knife before. Usually I buy the cheap $10 - $20 knives. I know there is a huge difference between cheaply made knives and trustworthy brands such as Cold Steel. The issue is I have never spent more than $20 on a pocket EDC knife. I have held the Rajah 3 and love everything about it. I am just very frugal and want to invest in a knife that will last. So I want to make sure I am making a good decision.

My question is: Is the Rajah 3 worth $50?

Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

I'm almost positive the Rajah 3 is worth $50. Have you done your homework? Read reviews, watched videos, etc? Heck, you could even post this in the Cold Steel subforum and see what kind of responses you get. It's a big, aggressive knife made with a good steel, IMO. I understand your frugality, but Cold Steel is known for their robust knives and the fact that they pass all these crazy torture tests.

Rajah 3 rocks and I carry Striders. I keep my Rajah as my around the house or walk to the garbage "tool". Well worth the money I paid!

Yes it's worth it. Cold Steel rocks and it's a great transition from cheap stuff. Only question is if you want it to be your first good knife but if you like it then go for it!!

I would say yeah. Its a little expensive for the blade steel and everything but most Cold Steel's are built sturdy and come scary sharp. I think you'd be happy with it. Check around and see if you can find a coupon code or anything.

I'd love a Rajah 1 or 2 as well but It would be hard to get away with carrying that thing and I don't see it being necessary day to day.

That's my only qualm since you can get a Spyderco Endura or Delica for around $60 but if you want a real beefy knife Cold Steel's are a good option.

Wow thanks for the responses! Yea, I've been researching the Rajah 3 for a while. I've watched videos, read reviews, read threads, talked to a friend who has one, etc. I just wanted to get an "up-to-date" thoughts on the knife since most of the other threads I've seen were older.

I love my Little Rajah. I have the older bead blast version. I polished it out to a mirror finish and it's beautiful... It's a great Utility/Tactical EDC. You won't go wrong with one.

Stiletto :)

Welcome to the forum akron, and congratulation on your decision to upgrade your knife collection. Good luck with the Rajah 3.

Just wanted to give an update. I got my Rajah 3 and I absolutely love it. 2 questions though, 1) I hear a lot of people complaining about the AUS 8 steel and it rusting. Anyone have that problem? I haven't had any of my other cheaper knives rust, as I do not take it out in the rain/water usually, but might as well make ensure it wont rust if it could. Anything I can do to prevent it from rusting? 2) I'm seeing a lot of different methods to sharpening the kukri style blade. Anyone have any tips/best methods to sharpen this knife? Thanks.

If it is the bead-blasted version, keep it clean and dry it off after washing it. Wiping it down with drugstore alcohol will help too.

Sharpening it is easiest by using rod-style sharpeners, either diamond or ceramic for the recurve.

Then use a flat stone for sharpening the tip so that it doesn't get rounded off.

I have the Rajah II.

My answer is yes. You will see a serious improvement in build quality, fit and finish, and sharpness over those cheap knives.
