Having a hard time deciding, all things equal. Would you buy the cold steel rifle hawk or CRKT Woods Chogan??

thanks

Neither. Get a Cold Steel pipe hawk.

Functional hammer poll, lighter head than the rifleman.

I have been using a rifleman for near 20 years.

I have not bought a pipe hawk, but that is only because I have a rifleman, norse, spike and viking hand ax.

It does throw extremely well, and hits hard. Chops fine, and hammers well.

In a fight, id throw that one, and follow in with a lighter axe and bowie.

I have a Rifleman Hawk and a Kangee, the spike version of the Chogan. Both of them chop fine and are very similar in head weight. The only real difference in the bit is the CRKT has a more pronounced curve towards the heel while the CS is straight. Both have held up well to lots of throwing, and either one would suit as a hard-hitting working Hawk. The big difference in the 2 is in the replacement handles, in that the ones I have been getting from Cold Steel lately have been utter, absolute crap. The last one was 3 inches longer than normal and so skinny that there is no way to fit it on; it just rattles around against the top swell with 1/8 to 1/4 inch gaps all around. The CRKT replacement handles fit exactly as they should, no variations, and in fact work better on the Rifleman than those junk handles CS keeps handing off. They are more expensive, but it’s worth it to not have to play the odds or make your own.

Between the 2, I would get the Chogan. Both are pretty heavy weight for being Hawks, I would be tempted to make the jump to hatchet weight and get a Council Tool Flying Fox.

Awesome reply and I appreciate your time

I would vote for the Riflemans tomahawk. I have a Cold Steel pipe hawk, and its excellent. The Rifleman is basically just a bigger version of mine. Good luck, sorry I dont have experience with the Chogan other than picking one up once and saying "Wow thats a HEAVY tomahawk!" lol
