Picked these up with a cabalas gift card. Not really a match guy but i figured, you can't beat waterproof and I'm sure the day my ferro takes a crap, my BIC will be outta fuel and it'll be wet. So the only review I can see for these would be get em wet and see if they work. Well here goes

Got both the box and the match wet (since it clearly states waterproof striking surface right?) Now before you say "well you can't drown em and expect it to work" I'm not I have it set up so the water that is deflecting off the drain stop, is hitting the box. Much like rain would.

Nothing, not so much as a spark. I did break a few matches in the process. I also tried a dry match with a wet surface and still nothing. I didn't even bother doing a wet match and a dry striker since.....wait for it.......the matches are stored INSIDE the box so therefore a wet match would have to equal a wet box. And to top it off, the wet striker broke apart! Wtf is that?

Worst buy ever. Epic fail Coleman. I guess ill have to save my waterproof matches for a nice sunny day.

Admittedly, that's false advertising. Waterproof strikers should be waterproof.
IMO the UCO stormproof matches are the best. They will burn underwater.
They also come with extra strikers in a plastic baggy so that they don't get wet.

I hope Coleman has a good legal department. Glad I tested these before I NEEDED them

Thanks for the review. Some of the Coleman stuff is top notch. Some, like these matches evidently, are Chinese failures at their worst. Who would have thought they would fail at pyrotechnics?

hmmm, the Chinese. First to make fireworks. Who would think that they would mess up fire?
Beats me. I'm sticking with UCO or Diamond strike anywheres and a match safe, made in the good old US of A.

They're only waterproof until you remove the sealed plastic bag....

Seriously, return those to the store and insist on a refund.

These were probably made by Diamond which is owned by the same parent company as Coleman.

I would but the $6 I paid ain't worth the 45 minute drive to cabelas. Ill just use em to light the grill. Its a disappointment tho

How dare you to expect waterproof matches to work when wet!! You sure have some nerves pal!! ;)

Nahh seriously though, that is good that you tested them before you relied on them.

Have you contacted Coleman about them? I'm not the person to call a company and bitch and complain, but I think it could be a funny conversation!!

They must have forgotten to include one of those little umbrellas like you get in your drink when you order a mai tai in Mexico.

Typical of the world we live in... Get some self striking matches with the two tone colored head. Dip the heads and half the shaft into melted liquid paraffin wax, then place in anything sealed and waterproof. Probably cost the same or less than those rip off matches... Instead of driving over just send your post in an email. I did that and got a coupon for 16 new Duracell rechargeable batteries. Saves burning the fuel and you may get some satisfaction from it. Good luck.

I've done that,
painted whole matches, head stick and all with clear nail polish

i have some 36 years old and still working like that.

Just get you some old Diamond strike anywhere kitchen matches and dunk the heads in wax.
Get the wax about half way up the stick so it would take longer for the wood to wick water up to the head.

yeah hate to be the bringer of possible high school trends but i used these matches to light my pipe and got high af for like 5 mins. tends to work better if you let the stem light fully before pulling than sucking in all the sulfer from the tip. hope the coleman legal team is ready for this p.r. nightmare

It's been almost 4 years since this thread was started... I doubt it was a huge issue
