Collectable Ken Onion knives?

They are Shenanigan Z knives, with 'First Production' stamped across the top portion of the blade above the 'Ken Onion Design' stamp. I am planning on buying at least two of them from a local knife shop, one to use and one to keep in mint condition. Is it likely that they'll become collectable at some point? I have little to no experience with these types of things and thought I'd ask around.

On another note, there WILL be pictures uploaded when I get the knives home. In the meantime, I don't recall seeing a serial number on either side of the blade... If there isn't one, even if it says 'first production' on the front I'm a little reluctant to buy more than one for myself if that will lessen the chance of them becoming valuable. However, since I usually buy two knives whenever I visit the place, if I can't find a small fixed blade or something I'll likely get two anyway.

If anyone would also like to share their experiences with this knife, it'd be highly appreciated.

In most cases, the short and simple answer is NO. The actual handmade models by Ken O. are very expensive atm, but 5 years from now....who knows which way they will go. This is just the way of the knife world, and knives are not really a great investment. If you want a good investment; gold and silver is what you need.

But the CRK&T knives are usually good knives and are a great place to start with knives due to the number of collabs they do. As far as the "First Production" goes, a collector who wants first production might pay $5 more, but overall the knife will probably never escalate in price.

Another thing to watch with CRK&T is when they discontinue a knife the price drops, and I mean it can drop down to a very low price.

The Shenanigan looks like a good knife and I've read some good reports about it on knifecenter. The Accuto+ steel seems to be really liked by most folks. If this is a knife you really like and the cost is right, you really might want to get 2, not for resale, but for your own use down the road.

Do give some pics when you get them!

No reason to buy a second for minty condition. CRKT tends to stamp those tags on a large number of knives (from what have seen).

Plus, no real increase. Not really the investment to count on. Pretty much agree with cutter up there^

Thanks to both of you, I was hoping I'd get some responses before I went. As for the first production tag stamping, I had no idea CRKT did that so often, since they're a company I'm not very familiar with. But if you think they're a good place to start, I'll have to check out a few other of their knives while I'm there! Maybe I'll find something I like more, and will buy that instead.

The knife really is one of a few I had seen that I'd like to EDC in place of some more expensive knives, the idea of keeping one for resale value was just a thought that occurred to me AFTER I left the store. The knife really has most qualities of what I like in an EDC, not too strong of a curve, the handle is roundly constructed and comfortable to hold while maintaining a good texture, not to mention the very smooth opening...

Once again, thanks for the quick responses. If I DO find something I like more, I'll post pictures of those in another topic.

Agree. They do seem to put the tags on quite a few. And sometimes not quite accurately.

They are stamping the current Foresights as first production, even though the "real" first production was the original batch of 130 knives that were produced with contrasting gloss and matte scales, while the regular ones have matte only scales.
I guess you could say both are of 1st productions....kinda.

I got one of the first 130. Certainly will be scarce, but I don't really expect to see any significant increase in value. Just nice to have something slightly rare. :)

Yep, no argument with the way he explained it.

I doubt any of us buy CRKTs expecting them to become collector items of any great value.

Noticed a First Production Stainless Steel Ripple on Ebay, and it was only going for slightly more than the regular model and the Ripple has been out for several years now.
