I know this topic has probably been done to death but I need to know since purchasing may be sooner than I thought.

I am a bigger guy with above average size hands, should I pass on the Combat Karambit and go for something bigger or will the smaller one be alright. I don't have sausages, but because I have never had the opportunity to hold one, I wanted to ask the Emerson community.

Thanks Guys

It's 7/8"

I cannot knock the Emerson karambit. In fact.......I own several. The inner diameter ring size is about the only complaint I have ever heard from some users.

Many would say that a 1" inner diameter is perfect.

I have a hand size between medium and large and the Emerson karambit hole isn't too bad for me.

As far as the hole goes, it's no big deal to enlarge it (but of course you can't make it smaller).

If you have hands larger than average, go with the Super, not so much for the slightly larger hole, but because the grip is larger overall.

Since that question is answered I want to ask another about the hole. It's purpose is to prevent someone form taking the knife? However couldn't someone use use the knife as leverage and break your pinky AND take the knife? Now you have a busted pinky and no knife.

This is similar to a technique where you take a aimed pistol from the bad guy- you have no choice but to break their trigger finger in the process since it's in the tiggerguard.

The grip you are describing is not the normal way to hold and use a karambit in a martial context. It can be used this way, but it is much better in reverse grip. Maybe these links from my website will help you a bit (a write up on the karambit, some videos, etc.):

In addition, here is a look at an Emerson karambit trainer (and some uses as a compliance/takedown/striking implement):

Is it possible to disarm someone who has a karambit (in any of the possible grips)? Yes. However, in my experience, the best disarm is when "dis arm right here" doesn't work anymore. In other words, a joint destruction is a lot more sure and workable in real life than a lot of the fancy "strip the weapon techniques." I practice and teach the strip the weapon stuff too, but it is always as an adjunct to the primary destruction techniques.

Hope this helps.
