Hi All,

I was just wondering what your experiences were with these two knives, if any.

I have both, love both, and cannot make up my mind which one to carry daily.

The GEC costs more, of course, and is heavier and cuts very nicely because the blades are a bit beefier.

The Case Sowbelly sharpens up like a scalpel and cuts great, too. It has a nice little curve which helps add power when cutting with the sheepsfoot.

The Case is a little prettier (burnt cream, colored like the awesome golden labrador I had as a kid). It is stainless, will never rust (in theory).

The GEC 35 is very dark red bone and less shiny carbon steel.

I am just wondering people's thoughts on these two, similar models.

Thanks!

I think you will get more traction on this in the Traditionals forum. You can use the "report" option and ask to move this thread there.

I am probably not the right guy to comment on this. Though I do own both, I haven't used the GEC Cattle Knife much at all, especially compared to my Sowbellys.

That said, though the two knives have similar blade configurations, I think the similarities end there. The Case is lighter, slimmer, and packs a lot of utility in that package. The GEC is heavier, thicker, and feels more robust as a result. Though the execution of the spear on this 35 is my absolute favorite compared to GEC's other spears, I still prefer a clip main like the one the Sowbelly sports. Case's sheepfoot blade is thinner, wider, and just better, in my opinion - though it does make the frame less ergonomic when using the other blades because of its height.

One can't go wrong with either option really and I think it just comes down to what style one prefers over the other.
