Eric of Fallkniven posted the composition of the Cobalt Special Steel they have started using on some of their knives.
Sounds like more models will be offered using this new steel in the not too distant future.
Copied:
Till now, we haven’t disclosed any information about our new laminate Cobalt Special steel. The alloy mix is C 1.1%. Cr. 16%. W 0.3%. Mo 1.5%. V 0.3%. Co 2.5%. This steel will as well be used as a centre steel, with 420J2 layers, and we are usually bring a hardness of around HRC 61 to the centre steel. We have tested the steel at the CATRA test laboratories in UK and found very good qualities.
A personal reflection I made when testing the cobalt steel is that the steel gets scary sharp, I have actually never seen a steel which is so sharp. And, our field tests show upon a very good edge retention and no signs of edge break. The negative matter is that it is around 50-60% more expensive than the VG10 steel.
Our experience of this new cobalt steel is so good that we believe that quite many new models will have this steel. Still, we won’t reject the 3G or VG10 steels.
My best
