Ok did a lot of reading before posting. I live in Ohio so auto knives and concealing fixed blade knives regardless of blade length is legal. Ohio is also a CCW and as of recently a Constitutional Carry state.

I EDC a Sig 320 X-Carry 9mm with a Sig red dot (RXP). I carry this in a Tier 1 Appendix rig (Agis Elite) with a spare mag next to it off duty. I am a firm believer in off duty carry is to keep / get out of a bad situation or stop an active shooter or pin them down till help gets there. I also EDC an Olight Mini Warrior 2 light. Hate that it’s made in China but Surefire and Streamlight have some catching up to do.

I’m a decent sized guy at 6’5” and 270 so I conceal it well. I also dress to conceal I use a Kore Essentials ratchet style belt and my shirts have patterns to also help break up any lines. I have never really given too much thought to the edged weapon aspect of EDC. Yes I know shame on me.

So I started off with a Micro Tech UTX 85% OTF. That knife is now a $300 pocket knife. As I am learning it’s kind of cumbersome to quickly remove from the pocket and open. So I am thinking about changing out to a fixed blade with a kydex sheath.

I have measured my hand and would like a handle with at least a 3.5 inch length. I’m looking at options like a Esse Izula 2, a Tops CAT and a Tops Iraq Jack, or the likes. What I would like to do is conceal it near the appendix rig blade down handle up if practicable. I am looking for honest opinions, I won’t get butt hurt lol. I see that some carry folders and small fixed blade knives. When I searched I didn’t see a lot of guys carrying a fixed blade as a EDC concealed. I’m not hiking or bushcraft just a have and hope to not need it tool in the EDC tool box. Thanks I’m advance.

Look at the Civivi Tamashii, Bob Terzuola design nicely executed, $80ish dollars. G10 or micarta handles, good low-profile kydex sheath with a T-clip belt attachment. If I think I might need something a little less utility oriented to back up my 1911, this one gets the nod.

Check out the J5 Tactical - great light, made in USA, solid, 20 bucks for base version, 40 for upgrade, it lasts....
Consider a waved pocket knife.

Ronin 2 is a good one.

I've carried concealed fixed blades in the past, not too often recently. My favorite in that size range is the Spyderco Street Beat. I have the older model with micarta handle and stainless blade. The current model is dlc blade and frn handles. Which is probably quite a fine knife, albeit a little over priced in my opinion at around $120. I had the Street Bowie which is very similar materials that is a 5in blade and the same price as the Street Beat.

I carried a Kabar TDI on my duty belt for many years to be honest. Purpose driven knife really. Many different options. The izula is nice but I like it more for outdoors stuff.

I carry mostly for utility purposes and prefer something that carries flat in my pocket.
I have a Izula but now mostly carry a White River Backacker Pro in the kydex without any clip.

I’ve been researching the Devils Elbow and Felony Stop models by Tops as well.

Honestly a high quality OTF would have been my first choice back in the day even over the Kabar. Simply for the fact that the Kabar and similar fixed blades I always viewed as strictly self defense or "oh 🤬" knives. Tried doing some simple cutting with it knce and wasn't impossible but not fun. A good quality OTF like the Microtech that you already have would be my top choice. If you're set on a fixed blade to help in "weapon retention" then one like the Kabar would be good.

I would suggest looking into Martial Blade Concepts, and I designed the River Hawk to be capable not only at utility tasks, but also to excel for MBC. Jason New River Knife Works New River Knife Works can hook you up with one. And the Practical Tactical section of Bladeforums is loaded with positive reviews and discussion of MBC from LEOs, retired LEOs, and martial artists alike.

Cant go wrong with an izula. If you want to spend a bit more Bradford and RMJ both have some great edc knives in various models.

Also not to derail the thread but this needs correcting so op doesn’t get the wrong idea.

These are absolutely not made in the USA. They’re cheap lights imported from China. Same as the ones you get on Amazon for $10. A massive downgrade from a olight warrior that op currently uses.

....They have thoroughly deceived me. I bought it as 100% USA made...

Whatever, it's a good light, still, to have. Why is it worse than any other light like Olite? Genuine question - I don't know flashlights. I might have just asked the flashllght equiv of 'Why is a RAT better than a Smith and Wesson)

Are there any USA flashlight EDC makers who don't make their stuff out of solid goldmascus for $700 special price?
Hyperbole, but that is what kept me away from watches/pens/etc, o my brother.

For made in USA Malkoff isnt bad, similar pricing as surefire but far better lights. Still pricey compared to Chinese offerings though unfortunately.

Too many options to make a specific recommendation but, if it is weapon that you actually intend to use in SD against another person, I suggest that you choose one that is CHEAP and that you can easily replace, in case:

1) you lose it,

2) you have to dispose of it, or

3) it's confiscated in connection w/an incident during which you actually used it.

I love my Izula in S35VN for small EDC kind of roles.
Get the "The Knife Connection" aftermarket scales and you wont miss that extra tang length.
That is a beautifully designed knife, and you'd be right to call me a super fan... but I think it's well earned.

I'm a big fan of the Parker Sosby Cub. I'd say around the same size as like an Izula and the likes. He makes two variations: one with G10 scales and another with a Japanese style wrap. I have one in the wrapped variation and I love it. They come with nice kydex sheaths with Discreet Carry Concepts clips which are great for carry.
