Its a very ugly knife but chops so well and its confortable to use. I have a few kukris, parangs and gransfors axes and a huge backyard of woodlands that needs tidying up. Its good exercise. For years i have looked at the condor engineer and felt it such an ugly knife that i did not buy. But one appeared on ebay, a used one that was really never used for half price ! I pulled the trigger, it came sharp but i gave the edge a steeper angle, even stropped it and it chops so well. Its a heavy blade, a real worker, it doesn’t look ugly anymore 🤗

Btw, the original knives were the Collins model 1005 and date to pre WWI. I believe they were slightly longer than the Condor version. There was also a second period manufacturer, that also used the original Collins sheath but produced a completely unmarked knife. I don’t know if the second maker has ever been identified.

I actually like the shape of that machete quite a lot. How does the handle do compared to your other choppers? Which is your favorite?

I have a four Condor blades and they have all been awesome. (Except for the Yoshimi machete. It looked so cool, I wanted one so bad, it was also expensive AF for a machete, was very disappointing in reality, heartbreaking really. Sent it back for Atrox, which is currently my favorite large fixed blade…)

Interesting - especially coming from someone who’s used so many large knives. What do you like about it?
Firstly it felt great in my hand; its handle feels as skinny as it could be before it would be too skinny, it indexes well and it’s a good length (for reference the Jarosz Choppa is a great knife but handle feels short, Condor Moonshiner is great, but handle is too long, Atrox handle is just like Baby Bears soup;;just right) for retention if you want to chop. Another handle plus is the micarta is very grippy, a lot of the time wrap my handles with racket grip or friction tape, but Atrox is easy to keep in my hand even if I’m going hard. Also it doesn’t feel overly heavy for its size, it’s fast enough for me to cut doubles on bottles/cans, and it has a super aggressive profile that makes you want to fight the Predator with it. Lastly it’s easy to get the thing razor sharp and its a great balance of power and speed. The sheath is really nice as far as production sheaths go too. Ive had mine around for about two years and I still enjoy using it.
