Has anyone acquired this from the new lineup by Condor?
Lochnessmuk Survival knife:
thumb.php

It has a cool name :). Blade length is 10 inches. Their pack golok and village parang are one and two inches longer, respectively, but they have this black "cratered" texture that I am not interested in. I am considering the Lochness as a short compact bolo that I used to see my field guides use in SE Asia. Do you think the length is good for chopping small branches and such? (OAL = 16")

Thanks in advance for any replies.

You're absolutely right! I don't have it, but it does look like the usual tool strapped around the waists of the rural folks and farmers in the provinces.

Geez, wanting the Speed Bowie, now this!?. . .

You know what I'm talking about! I knew one guy who had what looked like a "mini" bolo, so I'm wondering if the performance is comparable. I found a couple of older threads on the 2012 lineup that helped a little.

I do not own one yet, but i will. The design is sound & looks to be a GREAT blade. Condor makes good stuff. I own a Boomslang & it is one HD blade. I had to reprofile it, but it is a chopping beast now. Really impressed. A good investment for a knife enthusiast is a 1" x 30" belt sander. Makes long hard sharpening or reprofileing jobs quick & easy.

I got a couple in for the shop on Friday. Out-of-box edge was horrible by Condor's usual standards, as whoever was grinding it was probably in a hurry and gave it an axe-like bevel (first-gen Bushlore anyone?:p) but I ground 'em out thinner and they're tough li'l mini choppers/knives. The scales are comfortable, but have enough "meat" left on them that you have ample material to work with if you want to customize it to your own specific tastes. The blade feels to have a full convex to it, interestingly, though I may be wrong there. One of them is being relegated to "Grade B" status because of a small uneven spot on one scale, but it doesn't affect comfort or function. I'm certain that later iterations will have thinner edges, but as a first run with a mostly hand-made product these things happen. Until the edges come fine from the factory (which I don't imagine will be long--Joe only just got back from doing QC work in El Salvador!) I'll be giving them the "Special Grade" treatment.

Edit: Just got them up on the site for anyone hunting for them. :)

I appreciate the input from everyone. If I get one I have some things to expect and maybe some sharpening work.

This knife is on my short list. Anyone have one yet? Thoughts? review? Pic's?
Thanks.

I have a Condor Pack Golok. It seems to cut real well. I originally thought I could use it two handed, but you simply can't get enough velocity onto the blade to chop with it effectively two-handed. I suspect the Lochnessmuk will be the same. I actually like the hammered texture. I think the Locknessmuk will do what you want it to do.

I tried out my Pack Golok about a week ago when a large (3-4" diameter limb) from a black cherry tree broke off in my back yard. It was about size of a mid sized car if you count the folliage. I don't live in the country where I can just drag it off somewhere unless the "off" is someone else's back yard. :) So, I have to cut these things up into smaller pieces which I use for mulch or dispose of via the garbage can the garbage truck picks up weekly.

Ive had one for about a month now. I agree with all of FortyTwoBlades observations, and add that I absolutely hate the way the blade meets the handle, it's way too easy for your hand to slide off the handle and onto the business end of the blade.

I do like the Knife I just wish it had a Guard or Something.

Hi, just found this thread about this knife. Thanks for the info about it; this one is next on my list of outdoors tools to buy. I already have a Condor Golok and a Tavian.

What I like about this one is that it seems like a good all-purpose or "one-tool" blade; large enough to chop and baton with, enough belly curve to skin and process game with, and also looks like the back of the end of the blade could even be used for light hammering, like for tent stakes. Big enough for all those jobs, but not too big and heavy to be a burden to carry and use.

same knife as Condor Lochenessmuk:

Timber Wolf all terrain kukri. Selling on amazon.com for around $25. same/same exact knife. you know of any comparison/performance testing that have been done between these two knives?
