Conus shipping only

CONUS: 48 states in the CONtinental US.

According to my USPS experience, Hawaii and Alaska are considered the same as Iowa and Maine. I don't know about Guam, Puerto Rico or other 'territories'.

It would be the same as shipping to Conus if a flat rate box is used. Puerto Rico and Guam are considered foreign US. territories.

The point is that Guam is an unincorporated territory of the U.S. It's on the USPS system. Shipping costs.....are the same as to any of the 50 states. The local people are U.S. citizens. Federal laws and regulations apply. I've done hundreds of transactions on BF with no issues whatsoever. Recently when I state I'll buy a knife, I receive "CONUS shipping only" replies. Sorry people in Hawaii or Guam. Not taking any chances shipping to foreign countries.

What a coincidence that you posted this as I noticed this very scenario on another forum. The seller indicated shipping was included to all CONUS states, while shipping overseas (including Alaska and Hawaii) would be an additional $15.

Some people do not know any better. To be fair, I was one of those people when I first started selling. :o

Yeah it's a common mistake. I didn't know shipping to Hawaii was the same until a guy pointed it out to me a few years ago.

Don't feel bad miguet, living in Alaska I get the same thing. It really burns me when people think that Alaska and Hawaii are foreign countries and I do not hesitate to educate them that we have been part of the United States for quite some time. Thank goodness the USPS on it's tv commercials state that the flat rate boxes are the same shipping cost to Hawaii and Alaska. Even when using regular postage there is no special shipping charge. However most of the time when I tell someone this they agree to ship the item for the same price and if they wont then I take my business some other place.

I think people who put Conus only, are just to lazy, like me, to put it in the for sale ad but will ship to Hawaii and Alaska too.

There is a surcharge to Hawaii and Alaska if the package dimensions exceed set amounts. Not everything will fit in a flat rate box.

I ship CONUS only now. I agreed to ship to Hawaii and I normally include shipping and insurance in my items total price. Said no prob to a buyer in Hawaii, assuming it would be fine, and it was damn near $40. Doom on me and never again...

CONUS is what I advertise when I sell stuff but I nearly always make exceptions. Oddly enough I never, ever regret making exceptions to France (home of 90% of the people who have bought my Fred Perrin and Laci Szabo knives) but exceptions to Canada are regretful every single time without fail. Hawaii and Alaska are okay but expensive and take a long time to arrive, which means I have to deal with anxious customers in the meantime.

I have shipped to Canada a number of times, and to England also.Canada is the same cost ( a LOT more time though)because you have to mail it first class instead of priority, but it gets there. England was quite expensive to ship to, the only way to do it without customs getting ornery is to overnight it. In all of those cases, the buyer gave me extra to cover the cost/for the extra effort. No hesitations from me as long as the buyer is willing to compromise.

I have lived in Alaska for 13 years now and the shipping has never cost me more to ship from here to the lower 48 and back again and this was even before the flat rate box. I have never waited more time on a package to get here then when I was living in the lower 48. Maybe on oversize packages the shipping cost will be a lot more expensive to Alaska and Hawaii but on normal sized things like knives the cost is not different then anywhere else in the lower 48. I have received knives from New York in as little a 3 days and letters from Oklahoma in a days time. So I don't see where the shipping cost is more expensive or takes longer. Maybe I just have super duper luck, but I don't think so.

A priority flat rate to Hawaii costs no more and it takes a day or two longer at most. It goes on a jet so just how long could that take? Alaska I'd say would take about the same. But, I've only sold to Hawaii before.

Well, as they say, Anchorage is a nice place and you can get to Alaska easily from there. :p

Some places in the interior might take longer. There are places in the lower 48 like that. You get assigned a post office box in town, USPS will not drive miles into the mountains for a couple of scattered houses.

Actually, CONUS is a DoD and GSA acronym for the Contiguous United States and Continental United States. Continental and Contiguous are similar, but they are definitely different in terms of definition.

Contiguous: "Sharing a common border; touching. Next or together in sequence."

Continental: "Forming or belonging to a continent."

Technically Alaska is part of the same continent, and therefore would be included in the Continental United States. The Contiguous United States are the 48 states that are in contact with one another.

OCONUS refers to Outside of Contiguous United States. When on active duty, for planning, deployments, etc., CONUS was used in the context of "Contiguous United States."

but exceptions to Canada are regretful every single time without fail.

I don't understand what your qualms are. I've received HUNDREDS of knives from the US without fail. Getting the address right is the first step.

Canada is the same cost ( a LOT more time though)because you have to mail it first class instead of priority, but it gets there.

First Class takes 6 Business Days to reach me from the US. Priority takes 10 days. Our Postal System is pretty tight.

Some members don't want to ship to foreign countries like Guam and Hawaii.

What do you Guamians speak?

Guamish?

:D
