Hey folks,

I was at a knife store today and got to play with a lot of really cool knives. One that really stood out to me was the ZT0450CF. I really liked the size, the steel, the nice high saber? grind, the super smooth flipper, and those super hot lime green backspacers. The thing is, I have a lot of other very nice knives for EDC. I do not have a ZT, but I have been eyeing this one for awhile. Some of the knives I have are the Benchmade Bugout, the 585-2, the PM2, the Spyderco Dragonfly, and several Cold Steels. I think this would be a nice classy EDC knife. Should I buy it or not? Thanks for the input in advance!

Haha unfortunately you are asking the people who may steer you in a different direction than your wife/girlfriend/significant other. Haha buying a new knife is an addiction.

Hahaha, yeah, not too many people understand my knife addiction:D It doesn’t take much to convince me to buy one:D

I say go for it! I just picked on up last month, but so far haven't carried it for more than a week. I've been giving the Bugout most of the pocket time. The handle of the 0450cf is a little on the small side, but not bad IMO. All in all I think it's a nice little knife so far.

Oh cool! Yeah the Bugout has been my EDC for the past month ever since I got it. Thanks for the recommendation!

I feel weird trying to consider the 0450CF as "classy." First, the pocket clip has a logo on it, the blade is blacktical-tactical, and bright metallic green is not exactly the classiest color out there.

Now, those are not all inherent negatives to the knife. I actually like the general look of the knife - I just contest that classiness should not be the reason you choose this knife.

Why should you choose this knife?
- It's well made.
- It's only 2.45oz
- Good blade steel (kinda average for the price range, really)

Why shouldn't you choose this knife?
- You don't need it, and it costs $180 on average. Think about how much you'd enjoy that vs. having several nice dinners.
- It's a bit tactical-looking (if that's a concern) and broadcasts the brand of knife you have to anyone who can see the clip.
- The detent on some of these can be extremely stiff at first. A transient concern (it breaks in) but don't expect your new one to be as easy to operate as a store's floor model.

Everything else is more of a personal taste kind of thing. If you dig it and you can justify the expense, go for it. It's certainly a departure from all of the specific knives you mentioned already owning.

I do agree that some of the models can be stiff at first. The 566CF I bought a few years ago was very stiff, but smoothed up nicely!

Yeah, I see what you are saying about it not exactly being the definition of classy. I guess I thought it more in that range than the PM2 or something like that. I have played with a ZT that had an extremely stiff detent like you are referring to. I’m glad it would wear in though.

Yes, you should but it, why, because you can.
It has nothing to do with justifying a new knife, it’s about feeding the addiction.;)
